I just want to break my inadvertent posting moratorium for a moment to show my gratitude for my favorite person @dskreds who celebrates another trip around the sun today.

We’ve spent the past 18 years together growing up, traveling the world, running a print shop, wrangling cats, seeking out off the beaten path places to go to and so much more.

I’m never not in awe of her intelligence, beauty, compassion, love, perseverance and sense of humor to name just a few.

Okay so, I’m realizing that life in the time of covid is making me miss some of the everyday lamenesses of existence, of human interaction, you know? Like seeing people’s faces, hearing their voices, and like, the boring everyday storytelling that comprises a life. I’m talking about the narrativizing of otherwise unremarkable everyday experience that takes place whenever a familiar stranger or acquaintance or friend asks you like, what you did the day before or whatever. I’m feeling like, however awful small talk like that can be, those sorts of interstitial conversations might be the necessary scaffolding of a life, man?? Like, what is said and unsaid, what a person notices or doesn’t, what one chooses to share or omit fundamentally reflects and reifies the subjectivity of that person. I dunno. Maybe I just miss small talk and realize that it’s been long enough since I’ve engaged that particular set of social/linguistic muscles that I might be out of practice? Lol, I mean really though. What’s the point of narrativizing when the only person around to tell the story to was there for its creation/was a part of the story? Anyway. My storytelling skills are RUSTY AF but it feels funny to try to use this format to figure out how to socialize with people (just in case life ever opens up again)—by talking to myself. 😅 by @dskreds
