Today is Mother's Day and I want to tell you about my mom, Sandy Serrano.

My mom left Ecuador to give me a better life. She worked 6 days a week my entire childhood. Picked up part-time jobs on top of that. Made sure there was breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table every single day.

She stayed up with me until 3 in the morning on work nights to help me finish school projects. Then drove me to Kinkos at 6 am so we could print them out properly before school. The multitude of projects she did this for. I'll never forget my grade 3 science project on elephants.

She got me into soccer. After working all day she would rush home to take me to every practice and every game. Sun, wind, pouring rain... always there.

She worked at the same travel agency for over 20 years and was finally about to buy it. That was her moment. Everything she had worked toward was right there.

Then she got into a car accident.

She spent 8 years recovering.

I watched my mom fight through something that would have broken most people (I've seen it happen to enough people). She never stopped. She never stopped showing up. For anybody.. not once did she give up.

That accident is also why I became a paralegal. I watched what happens to people who are injured and left to fight a system that isn't built for them. I decided I wanted to be the person in their corner.

This one is for her.

It's official, D. Serrano Legal Services is open!

My legal journey started because of my mom. She was seriously hurt in a car accident and watching our family try to deal with the legal system while already falling apart changed everything for me.

DSLS was built for people in that exact moment. Injured, overwhelmed, flustered, not sure what they're entitled to.
We handle personal injury accident benefits claims and we fight for people who need someone in their corner who actually understands.
