Submitted my short story contest entry three hours before the deadline. Word count limit was 925 and I had 924 words. First prize is a publishing contract and $300. I hope I win. The Writer’s Weekly Fall season 24 Hour Short Story Contest prompt and deadline were just the energy I needed to get the creative juices flowing. The bonus— win the contest or not, I have three short stories, now, that I can add to my collection. Winners to be announced at the end of October. And only a five dollar entry fee. The next contest is coming up in just a few months. Interested? Check out Booklocker.com for more information.

Indie author, D.S. Marquis shares her latest editing strategy— writing a reverse outline. She’s reading draft six of her manuscript backwards, breaking it down, chapter by chapter, scene by scene, asking the question, “What had to happen for this scene to be inevitable?” She explains why it’s worth it! #itwillbeworthit #editing #writerlife by @dsmarquisauthor

When a humorous & historically accurate book feels like a confession and the protagonists are under the influence of 80s Pop culture, you might be turning the pages of DS Marquis’ Of School and Women, a book based on real events. Uplifting, feel good, funny, this story will catch you marveling at women overcoming the odds against them while finding the silver linings.

Thank you for the 80s music @whitesnake
