wake up babe new videos of me DJing in a small room just dropped ‼️ as part of the Centre for Electronic Music’s takeover of @sigilradio earlier this week I put together a mix of tracks that I think represent the sound of Joburg’s underground (for me at least). To me, it’s a sound rooted in an exchange between deeper genres like House and Bacardi, and the more turbo club and electro influences that are making their way into the Joburg Gqom and Techno sounds. Parties like @badgirlsclub.hq @livingmachines011 @liliesradio Melodies @love2love_za @movement.is.med Gqom Therapy and @welovetoytoy were on my mind. Clips: Likkyliks - Chomi (Lucas3000 Remix) (Unreleased) ERVA - Po nas x Jumping Back Slash - Hatu Surreal Sessions - Babylon [kevinindafield] - Y’all Ready x Ciel & CCL - Goblin Mode aetix - Llapses x Tactix - Ttalk (Unreleased) Petite Noir, ZVRI, STATE OFFF - Going Live x NirBona - Plexus (VIP) link in bio and all that x by @dsnlee
a few weeks ago I was in Berlin presenting my research at the Dancecult Conference and @flemish.fetish @brenn.invites just so happened to have an open slot on their @thfradio show the same day my flight landed! Here’s a lil dump of some of my yapping about venue closures and queer scenes in SA, some DJing, and some highlights from the conference - it was honestly surreal presenting at a conference so directly linked to my research interests; normally I’m just the weird nightlife diva in a room full of documentary historians lol. As much as moving to the UK has been pretty bleak, over these last few months there have been so many moments where it’s clear I’ve taken myself to the right place for my career and interests & I’ve been pinching myself a lot recently thinking about where I was a year ago compared to now. I’ll pop the link to the full show in my linktree, Nikki had some very interesting things to say about Queer Scenes in Berlin rn, and also put down a banging italo mix x Tracklist for my section: Aldonna - Air Sign (Marli Remix) Franck Roger - When You Touch Peverelist - Pulse XV @ray_bennett_f18 - K @tiro_andsomechange - Unreleased Lws - Steady On 131bpm - Anoyx (BASHKKA’s Sex Siren Mix) Marius Acke - Night Whistler Donald’s House - Piano Parfait Henriku, Alexander Skancke - Listen to this Frank Romain FX, Michael Cignarale - Cum Together Thanks to Nikki and Dancecult for having me! Thanks to all the really cool researchers and dance music nerds I got to hang out with! Thanks to the S-Bahn! by @dsnlee
