The people have spoken: our Bachelor Gulch ski house has been honored as a finalist for the 2026 AIA Chicago People’s Choice Award. Presented by @aiachicago in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Center, the Lerch Bates Awards celebrate architecture through the eyes of the public. We’re thrilled to see Bachelor Gulch recognized alongside exceptional homes by @robbinsarchitecure, @wheelerkearns, and @kipnisarchitecture. See link in bio for details.

In our Bachelor Gulch home, three stacked horizontal volumes shift and cantilever across the site, echoing the rugged terrain of the Rockies. This dynamic composition creates expansive terraces, frames panoramic mountain vistas, and carves out sheltered spaces that draw daily life into the landscape.

Our studio’s summer outing—Mies-style! At the Farnsworth House: sketchbooks out, celebrating an icon that still teaches us — then a West Loop rooftop to raise a glass to the day! taken in Farnsworth House by @dspace_studio

First look at a warm modern retreat, designed to slow the pace of life. Nestled in the dunes on the west coast of Michigan, this home is a quiet dialogue between architecture, landscape, and light—where nature sets the rhythm of the day, from dawn filtering through mist and trees to the last glow of sunset. We can’t wait to watch it come to life!

Inspired by the arc of Santa Monica Bay, this Palisades home takes shape as a series of contoured forms overlooking the Pacific. Sculpted concrete, expansive window walls, and integrated outdoor rooms balance resilience with a strong connection to the landscape and ever-changing coastal conditions.

Natural materials, circadian lighting, and carefully choreographed transitions between light and shadow engage all the senses, fostering healthy sleep, easing stress, and restoring energy. Explore the project at the link in our bio.

Honored to share that Collector’s Cottage has received two national design awards: a LUXE Red award and an Architizer A+ Award special mention. This project challenged dSPACE to balance historic preservation with contemporary design—transforming an 1895 workers’ cottage into a home shaped for present-day living while drawing from its architectural past. We’re grateful to our clients, collaborators, and the award juries for this recognition.

Architecture begins here. On site at our newest project in the Palisades, the earliest stage of design is guided by a careful reading of the landscape. Before plans take shape, we spend time studying the topography, light, wind, and views.

We design homes that feel as if they emerge from the land, harmonizing with nature rather than competing with it.

Thank you @dwellmagazine for featuring our Collector’s Cottage project.

This 19th-century Chicago worker’s cottage offered a chance to bring past and present together. The historic brick façade was carefully restored, while a new steel-and-glass rear addition introduces light, openness, and a 21st-century counterpoint. Together, the two halves tell the story of the home across time.

We’re grateful to Dwell for recognizing this residence and sharing it with their community. Explore the full story at the link in their bio.
