Exploring the abandoned depths of the Bunker Built by Germany between 1934 and 1944, this massive underground fortress was designed to defend the eastern border of the Third Reich. The central section features over 30 km (19 miles) of interconnected underground tunnels, reaching depths of up to 40-50 meters below the surface. The entire defensive line stretched for nearly 100 km, making it one of the largest and most advanced fortification systems in Europe. Today, its flooded tunnels, silence, and history create an unforgettable atmosphere unlike anywhere else

Exploring an old Nazi bomb-shelter ☠️

Amongst the standard Eastern European district stands an eerie concrete structure. This former overground Nazi bunker consisted of 5 floors (+ basement) and was equipped with an elevator for quick transportation.

One of its walls was broken with a rocket blast sometime in 1945 when it was captured by the Soviets. They were overseeing the battlefield from there as it was much safer inside and very easy to see enemy positions.

Nowadays this place is totally ravaged and a bit trashed. Pigeons are living inside and the water dripping is echoing throughout the otherwise dreadly silence.

Exploring a small Soviet bomb-shelter ☢️

While walking around the city we've found a strange looking hatch. It was located near a typical Eastern-European commie block. We decided to check what what was hidden underneath.

After lifting up a heavy concrete panel, the underground passage was revealed. We descended down the rusty ladder and found a flooded tunnel leading somewhere under the apartment block.

The tight hermetic door was closed shut. All the handles were very rusty, so we had to use a brick to spin them in order to open the door.

When we got inside we realized that it was an old Soviet bomb-shelter, that was remade into a standard basement.
But nonetheless, it still had remnants of the Cold War era.

The ventilation system was still in place. There were many heavy hermetic doors to protect civilians from the blast. There was a separate toilet in there, suggesting that people would be able to stay there for a long time. We also found a big water tank, that used to be filled with drinking water, but now it only had a disgusting rusty mess flowing out of it.

Overall, the place wasn't anything to write home about, essentially, being a standard basement. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed our little trip around that bomb-shelter. taken in Bomb Shelter by @dssg_urbex
