Not sure what to be for Halloween this year? Let the fortune teller decide for you! I designed this for fun last year, but now if you want your own you can donate $1 and print and fold as many as you like! Link in bio

Here’s the finished book cover! The figures just represent random regency era gossipers, not any particular characters from the show. I had a lot of fun illustrating food, which I don’t do very often.

It went through a few rounds of changes to make sure the image had enough impact. Up until this point, I had only illustrated book covers for The Folio Society, known for their silhouette style illustrations using minimal color palettes. This project was an excellent experience in terms of learning how a book cover image needs to have a lot of impact even as a tiny, digital thumbnail on an online shopping page. In the future, if I (hopefully) get a chance to illustrate another book cover, I’ll really focus on more simplified imagery and high contrast value ranges from the start.

Swipe through to see the original, un-cropped image, along with a wide range of color palettes we considered.

I’m really happy with the end result and love the embossed text on the printed cover!

Acrylic portrait demo from this morning’s Studio Remix: Portrait class. Thank you so much to my student, Elijah, who always comes to class so dapperly dressed, for volunteering and sitting so still!

I only planned to take 30 minutes, but it probably stretched closer to 45, since I answered a lot of professional development questions throughout.

We’re about halfway through summer. Pulling out these two very simple animations I made years ago because there’s still plenty of time to have adventures with all of your stylish, eccentric friends!

A few quick sketches from Day 3 of @iconconference . I listened to soooo many motivating and inspiring talks yesterday and meant to sketch all of them, but only ended up sketching the first couple. Here are Sophia & James from @foliosociety and @mattmahurin . I’m so tired, but still looking forward to what Day 4 has to offer!

Thanks to the attendees and our lovely model @deeraline for making yesterday’s Costumed Figure Drawing workshop at @iconconference a success! I loved leading the workshop, meeting all of the participants, sharing my costumes and even fitting in a few of my own sketches by @dstaffo

Quick sketch of @mirkoilicillustration during his recognition speech at @iconconference tonight (so excuse the harsh auditorium lighting). He was so sharp and witty. It’s lovely when illustrators who you’ve looked up to for a while exceed your expectations

Two more days left of ICON and having an amazing time!

I’ve been working on some bespoke matchboxes for a while and finally got them the way I envisioned - branded & with double sided illustrations. I’m still not sure if I’ll end up marketing them to sell (matchboxes are notoriously difficult to ship) or just use them as promo pieces. But, here are a few in the meantime while I figure it out.

Finally got around to updating my business cards! I’m always happy with @moo since they let you choose so many different images for the front side. It’s like a mini portfolio!

Trying to choose 3-4 costumes for the Costumed Figure Drawing Workshop I’ll be leading next week at @iconconference then photographing each ahead of time for the model so she can be best prepared (I will NOT be the model).

Young me would be so happy to know I never stopped playing dress up!
