Found this on the floor today! I saw something shiny ✨ and reached down and picked it up. IDK if it’s glass, diamond, or imitation. It’s heart shaped, and pretty. 🤩 #myprecious #gems #rocks #crystal #heart by @dsturge1
They call me the angry daughter. They’re right. But they mistake my anger for the beginning of my story when it’s actually what remained after decades of silence. I spent my childhood learning to read the emotional weather of everyone around me before I ever learned to trust my own. I became an expert at scanning faces, adjusting my behavior, shrinking myself to fit whatever kept the peace. I learned that other people’s emotions mattered more than my own. I swallowed my words because speaking them felt dangerous. I buried my needs because needing anything felt like asking for too much. I carried responsibilities that never belonged to a child, believing it was somehow my job to keep everyone else from falling apart. That isn’t love. It’s survival. The anger I carry today isn’t bitterness. It is grief finding its voice. It is the nervous system finally refusing to keep absorbing what never belonged to it. It is the moment I stopped confusing self-abandonment with compassion. For years I made myself smaller so everyone else could remain comfortable. I mistook silence for kindness, compliance for love, and invisibility for safety. Not anymore. My anger isn’t evidence that something is wrong with me. It’s evidence that something was wrong with what happened to me. It is the fire that remained after the mask finally fell away. by @dsturge1
