From the streets of New Jersey, to protecting and serving the public. Two homeless dogs are now heroes in training. Nina and Dolly are the newest members of the @burlcosheriff’s office K-9 unit. The dogs getting a new lease on life thanks to @pinelandsunleashedrescue and @absolutecontroldogtraining. One was picked up as a stray. The other was at a Newark shelter. They are now going through the rigors of learning bomb detection and search and rescue with their K-9 handlers, who say the dogs are a perfect match. The Sheriff says he actually prefers rescue dogs to be part of the team, and has had immense success with them in the past. The dedication and passion of those who worked so hard to give these dogs purpose and love, is quite impressive. They will be hitting the streets by the start of the new year. Who doesn’t love a comeback story?! And boy does this little guy have one. He’s appropriately named Rocky and has made a miracolous recover after being thrown out like trash, in a garbage bag, last month in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood. Rocky was severely starved and left to die. He managed to wiggle out and was spotted by someone who posted it on Facebook. A Good Samaritan rushed to the scene and him to the vet. Colleen Bell of @goodboydogrecovery had also dropped everything to rush to Rocky’s aid. She stepped in and took over his care. Rocky only weighed 9 pounds. He should have weighed 30. Thanks to Colleen’s love and care, Rocky now weighs 18 pounds. He’s gone from barely being able to walk and being unable to lift his head, to walking and now even running! He’s had lots of rehab with more to go, but these sweet boy has amazing resilience. He’s also gone from the underdog to a rock star. Colleen has been sharing all Rocky’s milestone on Facebook and people far and wide are following his journey and cheering him on. Go Rocky! GoodBoy Dog Recovery also wants justice for Rocky. They are offering a $3500 reward for the arrest and prosecution of whoever did this to Rocky. If you know anything reach out to the @pspca or GoodBoy Dog Recovery via social media. And if you are wondering what kind of pup he is, DNA tests are pending! We will keep you posted but we know one thing, he is a good boy! This is my story that aired on @fox29philly by @dtimmeney

Changing Lives! Philadelphia just launched its new youth boxing initiative called Beyond The Bell. It’s investing in new equipment, more resources and expanding youth boxing programs at recreation centers across the city. The goal is to strengthen the boxing program and cut down on violence, by engaging the kids, supporting them, and giving them something fun and challenging to do. The new initiative was unveiled by @philaparkandrec at the Marian Anderson Rec Center in South Philly on Wednesday, but will be available at 6 other rec centers, and hopefully a dozen by the start of 2027. Just talking to the people involved, you can see how this boxing program is making a difference, teaching discipline, self control and helping with self-confidence. The hope is to get more kids involved. Here is my story that aired on @fox29philly. Shout out to boxing coach George Gee Sr. who really cares about these kids, and has been making a difference in these kids lives in and out of the ring for 13 years. taken in Marian Anderson Recreation Center by @dtimmeney
