I had no idea how incredible the geography and people of Croatia and Montenegro would be. We biked, hiked and kayaked throughout, had great tour guides and perfect weather every day.

I DID have a sense of how awesome the guides and other guests would be, from prior experience! What an interesting, friendly and supportive crew. Especially my sistahs @jkd.733, @stefkimche, @kimmyj3131, @bridgeeem as we celebrated our X0 birthdays, + friends Lianne and Natalie!

This trip was also a physical accomplishment as each of us, from a triathlete to folks who hadn’t been on a bike in ages, made it through the 81 miles of cycling with ~7K elevation change over 3 days. Three of us made it on regular bikes - myself included 💪 - and the rest on e-bikes, which make these trips so accessible! Age is truly a mindset.

@backroadstravel truly does it right. Feeling grateful to be able to enjoy these experiences, for sure. taken in Kotor, Montenegro by @dtroust

Ode to my girls. One (Nat, not Nina 🤣) graduated from SCAD with honors in May and is looking for her next step (anyone need a creative?). Nina just moved to Brooklyn for her 2nd year at NYU. Mom is doing great! Life is ever-changing, and good.

Cheek to cheek with Guinness, who works for the National Park Service, in Meridian Hill Park this morning. I was there to witness Secretary Hegseth’s press conference on the “make DC safe and beautiful” task force.

Swipe to see the busloads of National Guard troops who were the de facto audience for his comments, since we neighborhood folk weren’t let in, and the protests against his actions and the 5K guardsmen and women currently occupying the city. As you can hear, their chants competed with officials’ remarks. taken in Adams Morgan by @dtroust

We celebrated a 23rd (!) birthday, saw Nat’s cool @sewerpigs entry in the sidewalk art contest, biked to the beach, toured SCAD’s new backlot, saw dear friend @nautical.noreen and had a funny moment where, from across the restaurant, the bartender pointed to her head to say “uh, your misplaced sunglasses are on your head, under your helmet.” 🤣

Much more Savannah fun to come in May! by @dtroust

I don’t need a review, or even Puerto Rican ties, to call that the best Super Bowl halftime show in recent history.

I do have Cuban and Venezuelan-heritage ties - hope you didn’t miss that after a Puerto Rican barrio was recreated on the football field and Bad Bunny made clear statement about the lack of resources for post-hurricane relief, that those countries and others were pulled in for a diaspora-wide statement.

At a time when people from these countries are being treated as less than human, this is the creative, and yes political, display we needed to see, and I am here for it. Kudos to the NFL for clearly giving full creative license despite the drama. by @dtroust

Took my first class at @purefireyoga today with the inspirational @marcusleeyogi . His BURN strength-training class kicked my a** pretty good; I kept up but will be sore tomorrow.

Their new DC Community Studio is at Cathedral Common and there’s free parking below - check it out!!

Marcus is a friend and entrepreneur who I learn from monthly; his flagship studio just won Best of Bethesda for the second time 😊

Our analysis suggests that Secretary McMahon's gaffe at an ed tech conference, where she said A1 (A-one) instead of AI (A-eye), wasn't a gaffe at all.

Because she said it properly moments before. AI is being spoken daily, especially at a conference sponsored by Silicon Valley. And it doesn't resemble any of the slips-of-the-tongue we typically make.

We may never know the truth. Still, this reinforces the need to employ healthy skepticism toward online content -- especially when it's viral, and when there's partisanship involved.

Wildlife on the block! This hawk landed two doors down while I was out in the garden. We named him Rufus 😊

The best was being able to stop a few passersby to offer a moment of Christmas joy ✨ taken in Adams Morgan by @dtroust

With tragic shootings at Brown University and in Sydney, Australia, we're looking for answers.

Follow local media sources at these times -- their reporters are working hard to cover what's happening on the ground.

Campus outlets like the @browndailyherald often shine in these moments. Following them on social media helps them out, too.

This goes for an offshore story like the shooting at a Hannukah festival on Bondi Beach also; @sydneymorningherald is currently reporting 16 dead. Or choose a quality source with reporters around the globe that posts updates multiple times a day, like @apnews or @npr.

We honor victims and families -- and avoid the inevitable conspiracies -- when we track these events using responsible sources of information. by @dtroust

Last week ended rough, when I biffed on an important deadline. Early Monday morning I looked out onto the deck and amid the dead plants were these geraniums, blooming steadily even on December 1. They reminded me of my own resilience and sure enough, an hour later I had two calls with exciting opportunities, from working with a new library system to a possible new research project.

I’m late to the party and bring some legacy cynicism to this the-universe-is-responding business. But I can’t look away when great things and synergies present themselves. And it keeps. Happening.

Grateful for this realization, and the joy it brings. 💖 taken in Adams Morgan by @dtroust

In our workshops people often say, we need to be teaching students, too!

Our last speaker for 2025 will share the many ways in which that education is happening. Join us on Tuesday, 12/9, noon-1 pm for a conversation with Michelle Ciulla Lipkin -- a global expert in media literacy education who will talk about how students and families are learning to be better media consumers and creators. She'll also touch on the very public personal tragedy that inspired her career.

REGISTER at truthincommon.org/events or via the link in our bio, it's free.

We're grateful for @IABCDC for a year's worth of support for this series! by @dtroust
