THAT WAS DUB WEEKENDER. ❤️

Two days of sound, food, film, conversations, dancing and slowing down together.

From the opening panel and Jamaican BBQ, through Grad_U, Javel, Catnip, Sælø, Dominic Reuben, Grounding Session, Selecta Harmony and Maccaroot, to Dub Echoes, chai, buns, carpets and the beautiful spaces created by Nomadic Chai, SEFI and Shepherd Sound Systems.

But more than the program, it was all of you who gave the weekend its feeling.

To everyone who played, cooked, talked, listened, danced, helped, shared their knowledge or simply found a place on the carpet and stayed for a while - Thank you.🫠

We wanted to explore dub as more than a sound, and for one weekend, we got to experience exactly that.

Thank you for being part of it.
Until next time. 🧡

Dub is something you hear, but also something you feel. And for that, the sound system matters.

For Dub Weekender, the room will be powered by @shepherdsoundsystems , one of Oslo’s most distinctive sound crews and an important part of the sound environment at TAD Oslo.

Specialising in Funktion-One systems, Shepherd approaches sound with the room in mind, from system design and placement to tuning and deployment. At Tad, they’ve been behind the design and configuration of the venue’s sound system, shaping it specifically for the space.

For Dub Weekender, they’ll take care of the sound throughout the weekend, giving everything from the deeper daytime sessions to the heavier nighttime selections the space to be properly heard and felt.

Shepherd founder Fredrik Bekkby will also join us on Saturday, moderating our opening panel exploring dub, sound system culture, community and where these ideas are moving today.

A weekend built around dub needs a system built to carry it. 🖤 taken in Tað Oslo by @dub.bakery

The Sunday daytime at Dub Weekender moves at a different pace.

At the centre is Grounding Session, an Oslo-based collective of musicians and producers exploring sound through live improvisation, deep listening, and presence.

Moving freely between dub, folk, ambient and experimental music, live instruments, vocals and electronic textures meet without a fixed direction. The musicians listen and respond to one another, allowing the music to take shape in the moment.

Find a place on the carpets, lie down, grab a chai or something to eat and let the sound unfold around you. Nomadic Chai will transform the room into a warm and comfortable space to settle in, while SEFI brings their pop-up dining experience with food made to be enjoyed slowly and as part of the shared atmosphere.

Throughout the daytime, Selecta Harmony and Maccaroot will take over the decks, carrying the room through laid-back selections and sounds rooted in dub and reggae.

We’ll also be screening the documentary Dub Echoes (Bruno Natal, 2008), with chai by Nomadic Chai and fresh buns by émr available throughout the day.

No rushing from one thing to another. Come early, find your spot and stay for a while.

A slower side of Dub Weekender, built around listening, sharing and simply being present.

DUB BAKERY

Oslo-based artists collective Dub Bakery takes dub into different territories - moving between roots, bass heavy sounds, atmospheric electronics, dub techno and more experimental territories.

At its core, Dub Bakery is about more than the dance floor. It’s about experimentation, deep listening and shared experience - creating space to move, connect and be present while bringing artists, collectives, friends and listeners together around sound.

For Dub Weekender, the Dub Bakery takes over Saturday night:

20:00–21:30 · Javel
21:30–23:00 · SÆLØ
23:00–02:00 · grad_u (Greyscale)
02:00–03:00 · Catnip

Different perspectives. Different sides of dub. One journey through the night.

NOMADIC CHAI - A PLACE TO LAND

Born from friendship and a shared love for electronic music culture, Nomadic Chai creates spaces to step away from the intensity - without leaving the experience. ⛺️

Inspired by nomadic cultures from around the world, their spaces bring together colourful carpets, cushions, candlelight, incense and warm chai. Shoes come off at the entrance, the pace slows down, and for a moment, it feels a little like coming home. 🪄

Sometimes you just need somewhere to sit down for a while. Have some chai, meet someone, catch up with a friend, or simply take a moment before heading back into the music.

For Dub Weekender, Nomadic Chai will be with us throughout Saturday and Sunday, creating a grounded and comfortable space while serving their signature chai. 🍵

Dub is more than a sound.

From Jamaican sound system culture to dub techno and beyond, its influence goes well beyond bass, delay and reverb.
But as the sound travelled, did the culture travel with it?

Join grad_u, Dominic Reuben, SÆLØ and Jacob Roots, moderated by Fredrik Bekkby, for a conversation about sound, culture, community and where dub goes next.

You don’t need to be a dub head. Come curious.

Saturday · 19:00–20:00 • 26th of September

@grad_u — (@greyscale.records - LT)

Joining us from Vilnius, Lithuania, grad_u has spent more than two decades exploring the deeper edges of electronic music.

As a DJ, producer and founder of Greyscale, he has become a key voice in the dub techno world - creating music where deep atmospheres, analogue textures, tape and sound system culture meet.

His journey started with drum & bass before a chance encounter with the deeper possibilities of dub changed his direction. Since then, his music has travelled across the world, with releases on labels such as Echocord, Silent Season and OHM Series, alongside more than 80 releases through Greyscale.

For Dub Weekender, grad_u joins us first for a panel discussion on how dub can shape music, space and community, bringing his experience from the international electronic scene. Then, as the night moves deeper, he takes over the Shepherd Sound System for a three hour journey through his interpretation of electronic dub.
