DIY Public Land Bull Elk

The Rocky Mountains in Central Idaho are no joke. They kicked our butts. Impossible to walk any where that’s not straight up both ways.
This trip was by far the most difficult thing I’ve done. I’m proud to be able to come home with an Elk and a memory with my friend we will have forever.

On day 7 of our trip we were finally able to put a bull down on a spot and stalk. He was at 8500’. After several days of seeing nothing, missing a couple opportunities on some other bulls we learned from our mistakes and got it done with this one. He was with the heard bedding on a mountain peak. We saw them from about a mile or more away. Climbed 900’ of elevation, army crawled up the last portion of the hill to get within 150 yards. They never saw us.

This trip I’ve gained crazy respect for Elk and elk hunters. The terrain they live in is unforgiving, steep, and treacherous. The weather can change on a dime. We slept in the snow, hunted in the clouds and burnt up on our hikes. taken in Mackay, Idaho by @duckdenver

We love cold days, floating acorns and mallards.

Ended our season on a high note just like we started off. As always I enjoyed every moment of duck season, nothing like the time spent hunting with friends. Like the rest of us, it’s time to hang up the waders, clean the shotgun, take the Havoc to Mighty White and call it a season. @kaitlinhhall I’m headed home, thanks for letting me put in the days each season!

A week of archery elk hunting in Montana.

What a blessing to be able to be out in the mountains again this year chasing after Elk! Again I’m amazed where these animals live, it’s unforgiving terrain, but beautiful. The past week has been all dark timber, steep climbs, long walks, early cold mornings and quietness like you can’t imagine. Thankfully my dad flew up for a few days and fished and I got to spend some quality time with him on the river too. But spent the rest of the trip doing some well needed solo hunting time. Elk hunting has highs and lows, swipe you can see just a glimpse of the trip, missing home was the hardest part.

No I didn’t kill one. But got really close, passed on some cows, learned a lot. I’m ready for round two next year!

Another summer comes to a close and another year around the sun for @kaitlinhhall everyone wish the sweetest human I know a happy birthday!

This summer we celebrated 11 years of being married. Since we met in 2005 you’ve been the best part of my life. Everything good is tied back to you. Thanks for being the best mom, the best life partner and being the rock to our life. It’s been a season of a lot of changes but you’ve been the one thing the family can count on that doesn’t change!

5 years ago today we became parents. Nothing compares to being a dad!
Known around our house as big brother, Tutt, Pedro, and boss of the house. Right now Sutton loves Spiderman, John Green Tractors and working. He says he’s going to shoot a grizzly bear and an Elk one day. Also says he’s going to be a Farmer when he’s grows up & says he wants to make the world a better place. He loves his two sisters and his momma! Can’t wait to see where life takes you bud. Happy birthday Sutton! Big 5! by @duckdenver

Officially finished with our Auburn Woods Pool house build.

I’m proud of the finished results of this one. Our crews did a great job from start to finish and really helped bring this customers ideas to life. A place they will enjoy for many years.
