POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

St. Dulce was created with intention.
Not just as another venue.
Not just a rental space.
Not as something transactional.
We are artists and cultural workers ourselves. We know what it’s like to need space. We know what it’s like to have a hard time finding space that feels aligned with the our values, feels accessible and is actually affordable.

That’s why St. Dulce exists.
It was intentionally created to address the limited access to community spaces.
A space where people can gather, create, organize, celebrate, mourn, learn, heal, and connect.
St. Dulce operates on a sliding scale. Some people and groups utilize the space at a higher rate. That helps make room for people and groups with less resources to still be able to afford the space.
That matters.

Because when space is accessible, people have more room to be creative. More room to experiment. More room to create projects and gatherings that are socially conscious, community-centered, and needed.
We know people are multi-dimensional and complex. So our hope is that St. Dulce can hold that too.

Multicultural. Multigendered.
Multisexual. Multigenerational.

A space that understands we are not linear. We have many interests.
We want joy. We want learning. We want healing. We want connection. We want places to think together. We want places to just be.
We also see St. Dulce as a space to organize. Formally or informally.
A place to meet people where they are and have real conversations about the issues impacting our communities.

We are not a “venue” that is just transactional in money.
Yes, we have bills. Yes, we have to keep the lights on.
But the most important part of having a physical space is being able to build a better today and future for our community.
There is a pay-it-forward type feeling in what we do. Some people create in the space and exchange through cleaning or volunteering. Some give monetarily to help offset the costs so others can use the space at low to no cost.

We give what we can, when we can.

And Dulce Upfront’s approach to keeping St. Dulce stable is trying to find that balance.
