I never did an introduction post so I can’t think of a better time now that I’ve finally settled on a pen name! I was on the fence about using one; I liked the idea of separating my day job from my writing career, and increasing concerns about safety issues voiced by other authors really encouraged me to consider it. And then I discovered that a very famous author used my legal name as a pen name, and that decided it!

I’m Duley Anderson, and I write fantasy featuring characters who are still figuring out (and sometimes finding the magic in) adulthood. I have two rambunctious little kids, three cats (one is not pictured because she is the absolute worst and her cute face will mislead you to believe otherwise), a wonderful husband, and a very unfortunate attempt at a garden. I love painting (we made a Labyrinth inspired mural in the nursery), traveling anywhere (even gas stations hold a bit of magic for me), teaching my kids to howl at the moon, black coffee at all hours, and the anticipation of cracking open a new book.

I’m so beyond thrilled to announce I’M GOING TO BE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR!!!

As a chronically superstitious person, I’ve been holding my breath for months, worried I was going to accidentally step on a beetle or break a mirror and inadvertently ruin the whole thing, so it feels so surreal and incredible to finally share that my adult cozy fantasy has a home with @unionsqandco! Thank you so much to my amazing agent, Hannah Andrade at @bradfordlitagency, whose unwavering belief in this story still brings me to tears. I cannot believe how lucky I am to get to work with Stefanie Chin and the team at Union Square & Co., who understood my weird humor and embraced it, coconut shrimp and all. This is an absolute dream come true.

I’m so excited for you all to meet Sunday Jones, my anxious, reluctant heroine who has no idea what she’s doing but is going to do it anyway.

Thank you to my friends and family who read early drafts and gave feedback and encouragement: @erinrosek, @itsoldbean, @megan_me_crazyyy, @annechakin, @emilyhatheway, @missblissabyss, @nadiapurps, @allisonstirling, @yy_author, John W., and my husband; I could not have gotten here without you. by @duleyanderson

Please don’t ask me to move a mattress. I’ll be of no help unless you want to listen to me cackle while you do all the work. And yes, when I watched Malignant my husband did ask if that was going to happen to me 👀.

In honor of turning in my first round of developmental edits for THE SAINT OF DESPONDENT PETS, here are my three (occasionally despondent) cats. Bonus slide at the end of cats in costumes, back when I used to make our costumes match. (I will never unearth the photo of me as a pregnant Mewtwo.) by @duleyanderson

Happy Cover Reveal @rowanbrightonbrown!!! This cover for WHITE TRASH WITCHCRAFT is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to get my hands on this queer Appalachian horror next fall!

When Sierra’s dad disappears into the foothills of the Appalachians, she’s convinced it’s something darker than his usual pills.

During her search, Sierra meets Blight, an intoxicating and infuriating nonbinary caseworker who brings answers about her dad and questions about her sexuality.

While exploring their relationship and the opioid-riddled underworld, they discover a disease creeping through users’ veins like kudzu—and it looks a whole lot more like the family’s folk magic than any ordinary infection. by @duleyanderson
