Six years in the making, this project has evolved from its 2019 Brooklyn roots with dear friend Shahzad Ismaily at Figure 8 Studios into a lush, electro-acoustic meditation on autonomy, grief and circular time. Completed in 2024 alongside producer Nandi Ndlovu, immeasurable multi-faceted incubation / management by Andrew Curnow and engineer Dion Monti, the record defies singular genres — weaving through future folk, post-punk, and gospel.
It is an archive of ontological complexity, a study of anti-imperialist logic, and a radical exploration of more-than-human listening. We invite you to step into the folds of this ever-expanding sonic universe today from a place of deep gratitude, exhaustion & awe.

Due to overwhelming interest in an online version of the semester course, we have decided to make this vocal semester course a hybrid class. You can participate online from anywhere in the world, or join us in person here at the Berlin School of Sound in Berlin.

Sounds from a Listening Body is a three-month intensive for vocalists, composers, and performers seeking to dismantle perfectionism and performance anxiety.

Rooted in Black ontological frameworks, trauma-informed somatic care, and deep listening, this course treats the voice as a resonant archive. We begin by unlearning the constraints of traditional training — moving from ancestral body noise and embodied ecologies into experimental sonic composition. By engaging the analog body before touching the digital interface, we explore the symbiotic relationship between the creator and their tools.

Whether you’re a classically trained musician looking for freedom, a “recovering” vocalist, or a sound artist curious about the intersection of movement and electronics, this process offers a space to cultivate resonance, unlock vocal potential, and build a cohesive body of original work. by @duma_ma

They only met on Monday. And already, it sounds like this.

Sandy Chamoun & Anthony Sahyoun (Lebanon), Dumama (Berlin / South Africa) and Simon Popp (Munich) are meeting for the first time as part of the PHRE Residency.

Since then, they’ve been experimenting, improvising, listening and creating together.

A little glimpse into the rehearsals and a process that is just beginning to take shape.

Come experience where it all leads this Saturday, outdoors.

One thing is already clear: this won’t be a sit-down concert.

-What happens when four musicians who have never played together before meet for the very first time? Four individuals coming from entirely different social realities. In the PHRE Residency, Sandy Chamoun, Anthony Sahyoun, Simon Popp, and Dumama collide. Four artistic positions spanning composition, poetry, sound art, performance, jazz drumming, loop stations, and electronic effects. Influenced by the ongoing crises in Lebanon to post-colonial and diasporic perspectives in South Africa, they weave their unique backgrounds into a collaborative creative process. Over several days of improvisation, listening, and exchange, a collective sound will emerge. The performance becomes a snapshot of this encounter: raw, immediate, and unrepeatable.

-Between guitars and electronic sounds, the trio functions as an inseparable creative unit that strives to invent its own distortion of reality. Moving beyond genre conventions, Carl Gari focuses on aesthetics, moods, and states of tension, emerging sound as a physical and psychological space. After years of continuous development and collaboration, Carl Gari now release their eponymous double LP on Molten Moods which will be presented on this night.

-Daniel Mazza rides in by bike from South Tyrol. A friend and longtime musical companion, he has shaped Import Export from the very beginning. His selections draw from sounds collected on travels and festival journeys: leftfield discoveries and rare finds from Merano across the Mediterranean to Izmir.

(Munich/Iran)
-The co-founder of the renowned Orbital Reflector collective and initiator of the FORUM series moves from one niche of electronic music to the next. His stylistic range is characterized by a great love of experimentation and spans genres from bass and electro to house.
