'One man, one rucksack, and a head that won't shut up...'

On 3rd September, I had the privilege of going behind the scenes to capture promotional photographs for Seth Vaněk Martin’s upcoming play, "TAKE THE SHORTCUT."

I produced a variety of images, ranging from posed stills to candid shots taken during scenes, to fully represent the elements of the production. We also experimented with backlighting, which I believe effectively emphasized the grief and mental turmoil conveyed by the character throughout the play.

As this is the first play he has written for a public audience, it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to assist in promoting such an intriguing concept. While I will not share any spoilers, I highly recommend that everyone attend a performance once the dates are announced. by @dumblefrog

On 16th September I worked backstage on @earcandytunes 's new music video for their song "Clean Clothes".

I was able to design a clown makeup which was apart of some of the scenes within the video, the look is asymmetrical though keeps the same colour scheme by reversed on each eye, I really wanted to incorporate the star as well, as it hints to being a "Rock Star" and a musician. After doing some takes with the look, I then smeared the look to create a verison where the chatacter is more upset and distressed. These brillany stills were taken by @charliejosephlangdale

As well as a final minute request to paint a few eggs into the same clown makeup which was inspired by "The Clown Egg Register " that is a book by photographer Luke Stephenson and artist Helen Champion that explores one of the most eccentric traditions in the performance world. This tradition was started by a man named Stan Bolt who started recording clowns' painted faces on blown eggs in the late 1940s, This led to the creation of a register that now serves as a copyright for each clown's unique painted face. It currently has over 250 eggs in its collection and is continually growing. (I had a lot of fun finding more info about this subject after hearing about it!!!)

𖦹 *٭ 𓆣 𖢥 Melanie Martinez's HADES: THE SACRIFICE 11.09.26 𖢥 𓆣٭ * 𖦹

What an amazing night, this was my second time seeing Melanie live and her stage presents is absolutely amazing, you would have never known she had a broken foot at all, and they even turned her boot into apart of her outfit. Which going onto her outfit was 100% my favourite out of her whole tour looks being some sort of grudge marie antoinette styled dress!!

This album was very special to me and has become my second favourite after Crybaby (of course) and being able to see songs like MONOLITH live was such a healing experience. When she comes to the UK again I will be definitely going.

I'm so pleased with everyone who I met, you all were so sweet and Im so happy you all love the bracelets which I gave to you all xx taken in The O2 Arena by @dumblefrog

As it comes up to my favourite tine of the year that only means one thing, Another year, another Halloween costume which I designed and created!

This year I wanted to be sustainability and only use things which I already owned to create the costume, I had an old dance leotard which was given to me among other show outfits from my dance school for free and this one fitted me so I kept it aside and that became the base of this outfit. Which I then added drapping fabric scraps which I had kept to turn it into a dress. I also added rhinestone and fake pearls over the bodice.

My theme this year was a Mermaid / A fish out of water as I also wanted to wear it to go to Melanie Martinez's concert and one of my favourite songs from her is "MILK OF THE SIREN" so that was a major influence into what I chose.

The makeup look is also designed by me, as seen where I used a mix of inspiration photos I sourced from Pinterest as well as annotationing each element to my design and commenting what products I used.

Though it wasn't my initial idea, I also had made a fish tank head for something else which I realised went well with my costume and the theme so I chose to also photograph myself in it when I did the photoshoot.
Other than the materials for this element, which like I said I wasn't intending to use for this costume, I was able to stick to my goal of keeping my budget at £0. Yes, I know I'm quite lucky to have all these materials hanging around, but I choose to never throw anything out just incase it comes in handy and some of the fabric used for this ive had for years at this point.

As the curtain call comes tonight for the final performance of this year's @brownsea_open_air_theatre production of 'The Tempest', I wanted to show some of the photography which they have used for their promotional material on their social media, as well as their website, which I had the privilege of taking for their Dress Rehearsal.

This has been such an amazing experience, being their photographer as well as being a large part of the makeup team. I have learnt so much and been able to teach others about state makeup; what works, and what doesn't show up on a live stage.

BOAT is such an amazing community filled to brim with talented people in their own ways, being it acting or behind the stage, and even though I wasn't performing this year, I have been able go do so much more behind the scenes and for their promotion.

Caliban’s Tattoos and Makeup for Brownsea Open Air Theatre’s Performance of “The Tempest” 2026

This year I was given the chance to take control of Caliban Makeup for B.O.A.T’s production of “The Tempest” which I used Iban Tattoos for my inspiration which is traditional body art expression and these marks act as a life diary showing their travels through the art on their body. I took reference to this meaning for Caliban’s tattoos, showcasing beetles and ‘clam-shaped’ which Caliban would have seen within his travels on the island otherwise it doesn't look authentic.

I chose to use Natural Henna for the larger and more detailed tattoos as this meant that the designs would replicate real tattoos more, but as well as the production is 2 weeks long, it meant that I didn't need to keep drawing it for every show. For the face and arms, I used a Water-Based Brown face paint adding depth with a Deep Red, smudged, to replicate him using berries to add his own makeup. These were then set in place using a transparent powder and this helped dampen the colours if they were too bold compared to the natural henna.

Aswell as being a large part of the makeup team this year, I was given the chance to do the photography for this year's Dress Rehearsal and Tech Week, which @brownsea_open_air_theatre and I will be posting throughout the next 2 weeks to promote the show, which I really recommend anyone come to see it, this company is absolutely amazing and everyone from the actors to the backstage crew put in so much work and effect in the production. The show is running from August 3rd – 15th and is hosted at Canford School, for more information check out Brownsea Open Air Theatres Instagram and Website.

"Witchcraft and Folklore" Wearable Fashion, Art and Design Level 3 Final Piece

For this project at Brockenhurst College, our client, @riottattz , commissioned a wearable art piece to serve as inspiration for a new series of tattoos. While this request was part of our coursework, it provided valuable experience in adhering to budgetary requirements.

I chose to explore themes of nymphology and mythical creatures, developing an original character for the photographic session. This concept draws inspiration from Cult Pixies, Unicorns, and Melanie Martinez's character from her album "PORTALS."

The creation process involved techniques such as fabric distressing and upcycling, utilizing repurposed remnants of old dance costumes to construct this new garment, showing my understanding of sustainably which helps cut down on massive textile waste and save money.

My design extended beyond a single item, encompassing a complete costume for the character, including a headpiece featuring a unicorn horn and an underskirt. Additionally, an editorial makeup look which i developed to complement and unify the overall aesthetic.

𝙷𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚚𝚞𝚒𝚎𝚝 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚖𝚊𝚕𝚕, 𝚑𝚎 𝚒𝚜 𝚋𝚕𝚊𝚌𝚔, 𝙵𝚛𝚘𝚖 𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚜 𝚝𝚘 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚝𝚒𝚙 𝚘𝚏 𝚑𝚒𝚜 𝚝𝚊𝚒𝚕..

Last Tuesday (25th November) I had the amazing opportunity to complete this Mr. Misstoffelees costume along with wig for @_heyrobin_ who is competing in the ISA Dance Competition.

This costume has been in the making ever since October and I was thrilled to see the costume all together along with the theatrical makeup which I also did for him.
The costume and wig is handmade by me, including every little gem stone which I hand-glued onto the body suit and the wig is made completely from scratch using lose wig hair and a hot glue gun to attach each section onto a wig cap.

It was a pleasure working with Robin again, usually im acting with him but this time I was behind the scenes forming his character, and im so pleased how well it suits him!

The photographer of these photos is also me and I think they capture the cat likeness very well, Robin you were born to be a dancing cat!!!

I wish Robin the best of luck in for the competition and I hope you win!!!

18.11.2025 James Marriott Concert Part 3

Yes, of course there are more photographs!! This Concert was just AMAZING!!

Both of Jame's supporting acts were brilliant as well @esmeemersonband and @calumbowiemusic were so good and I definitely be listening to their music.

What a beautiful night (and day queuing!!) It was so much fun, even when it was cold!!!
