When I’m designing a backyard, I’m not thinking about the pool in isolation. I’m thinking about the entire outdoor space and how all of the pieces work together.

That includes the hardscape, landscaping, shade, outdoor kitchen, lighting, finishes, AND the furniture.

I spent the day at World Market Center with Holly filming, while Jim Warnock, Tropitone’s sales rep and a highly regarded L.A.-based designer showed me around and helped me explore outdoor furniture options for one of our current projects.

@tropitonefurniture had SO many great options. 🙌🏽 Beautiful designs, tons of customization, and furniture actually made for outdoor living in our crazy Las Vegas climate.

I’m looking at the materials, fabrics, scale, colors and overall design because the furniture needs to feel like it belongs in the space, not like someone just dropped a patio set into the backyard.

Nothing is finalized yet, but this is one of my favorite parts of the design process: pulling all of the pieces together to create an outdoor space that feels intentional from the ground up.

That’s what I mean when I say I design more than just pools. ☀️🌴

WEST/OESTE last night, a dialogue between California and Mexico told through matter.

We presented new work by Daniel Orozco: volumes in volcanic stone, cantera, and travertine in conversation with carved jabín wood and oxidized metal forms born of Mexican craft that, in California’s light, find another way of inhabiting space. Each piece carries the weight of the hand that made it, yet breathes with the lightness of the coast.
