Nearly 100 of our Class of 2025 graduates were sworn into the Pennsylvania Bar last Friday! They were joined by elated family, friends, and law school faculty and staff at the beautiful and historic Supreme Court Courtroom in downtown Pittsburgh. Justice Christine Donohue, L'80, Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, presided over the ceremony.We are so proud of this Class of 2025. For the July 2025 administration of the bar exam, 92.13% passed on their first attempt! These recent bar results were nearly ten percentage points higher than the Pennsylvania state overall first-time passage rate average of 82.47%! Congratulations Class of 2025! Rebecca Burns, rising 2L, is busy conducting legal research and drafting memoranda, attending meetings and court proceedings, and observing the work of Assistant United States Attorneys throughout various stages of the federal litigation process as a volunteer intern at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania.She credits our LRW program for preparing her for this summer’s role. “Duquesne Kline's Legal Research and Writing program gave me a strong foundation in legal analysis, research, and persuasive writing. The course also prepared me to efficiently navigate legal research platforms such as Westlaw and Lexis to develop complex legal arguments,” Rebecca said.She shares her appreciation for all who are contributing to this experience. “I am incredibly grateful to be a recipient of the McGinley Public Service Fellowship, whose generous support helped make this internship possible. I am also thankful to the attorneys and staff at the United States Attorney's Office for their mentorship and willingness to share their knowledge throughout the summer,” Rebecca said. by @duquesnekline

Nothing could dampen our bar takers’ spirits or deter them from trekking off the Bluff yesterday for our private tour of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, where the Pennsylvania Bar Exam will be held next week.We want our bar takers to be prepared for anything. They showed up, learning where to park and where lunch will be served both days, a small piece of preparation to help relieve anxiety. They built their confidence walking into the room where they will sit for 12 hours to pass this important examination. Hard work and preparation beat luck every day of the bar exam. Our evening students are often seeking a new path, and many have obligations other than law school. Alparslan Asan, L’26, juggled a young family and worked during the day as a patent agent. He graduated in May, professionally and personally fulfilling his desire to be an agent of change.Alparslan, who received his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Washington, originally made the trek from the west coast to Pittsburgh to pursue his PhD in molecular pharmacology.Looking for a flexible path to a legal degree, he found one around the corner from his home. “I was in walking distance to Duquesne [Kline School of Law]. I heard about Duquesne Kline from a lot of my friends, but I had never been to campus. In my mind, I could see it everywhere from the city. It is the only viable option for any person who has a full-time job within the city of Pittsburgh, and it was the only option for me if I wanted to live in Pittsburgh, work, and go to my classes consistently at night. I am really glad I made that choice,” he said.Alparslan is grateful he made the decision to pursue his legal degree, and encourages other working adults who may be considering legal education to follow their dreams.“There is a lot of support from both faculty and the students once you come to Duquesne Kline. It is great to have that option, because without Duquesne Kline a lot of people in the city would not be able to do it. Duquesne Kline has a very essential role in helping people who are already employed and need the flexibility that only Duquesne Kline offers to get a legal education.” by @duquesnekline

Preet Patel, rising 3L, knows the code for success. She entered our Duquesne Kline School of Law expecting to develop her reasoning skills while learning the law, and discovered her aptitude in technology, and its unexpected legal connection. She is thriving at the intersection of law and coding. Patel entered and advanced in competitions throughout this past academic year that showcased her command of this field. Patel entered the Data for Difference Making Challenge (DDMC) competition Duquesne University hosted that provides graduate students with the opportunity to develop data-driven solutions that address societal challenges. As part of the competition, she was placed in a random group and had four days to prepare a presentation. Her team won first place in that competition.She went on to compete in the Hofstra Law Fifth Annual National Legal Innovation Tournament and in Hacking4Humanity against Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. In that competition, Patel and Andrew Babich joined to form the Labelmakers. Their team presented their proposed policy and earned a prestigious second place.Patel sees her future focused on this novel subject area of law and technology. She said, “I am leaning toward data privacy, IP (copyright and trademark) or tech law. I’m still exploring my options, but I definitely want to be in a space where law and technology meet.” by @duquesnekline
