The ability to scan components and use the mesh as functional models saves so much time and increases efficiency in CAD time.

The EinScan Rigil lite is an absolute work horse and it’s ability to scan with such detail and provide immaculate scans is phenomenal.

Each component was scanned in multiple positions and aligned in the Shinning 3D Rigil software, were you can fine tune the final model.

Good day to be a D60 kingpin diff

All fresh new builder parts to assemble the FJ45 front Dana 60, supplied by @hill_fab

Bumping it up to a full 35 spline assembly, allowing us to run new higher-strength tubes and large castor in the correct position.

Front Defender scan completed after the front chassis repair works, stitched to our existing model also showing everything true to alignment.

First steps moving forward are as follows:

Centre line of diff and steering box separation for drag link throw and pumpkin clearance.

Steering trajectory line to firewall steering spline

Engine cage to mount 16in kings coil overs and stiffen the front arch of the chassis

Full lock steering and lower link clearance

Front scan of this Badass HQ to be sent off to @plazmamanracing for a custom cooler.

Using the Einscan Rigil lite we’re able to complete a two-piece scan. Which means we can visually see clearances behind the grill ensuring the cooler fits, having the ability to pull the grill in and out on a locked plane shows us the contact patch once seated.

Front end of the Defender build currently being cleaned up and repaired.

Making way for the Kings coilovers and GU diff, in the coming weeks there will be more YouTube videos with all the work being done on the builds.

The next video will cover flipping a Dana 60 for the fj45, front end strip on the defender and scanning the front chassis to workout the best suspension package.

Reverse engineered a set of fabricated 6BT engine mounts using scan data captured with the EinScan Rigil Lite.

We completed two scans in different orientations, then aligned the datasets to make sure every face, angle and mounting feature had clean, accurate data.

From there, the mounts were rebuilt in CAD and converted into a flat-pack sheet-metal assembly, giving the customer a production-ready design that can be cut, folded and reproduced consistently.

A good example of using 3D scanning to turn an existing part into a repeatable manufacturing solution.
