Kelley Series // My Uncle Rob passed away when I was 21. Pancreatic cancer took him from us far too soon. These are his hiking boots, now “Retired” as the name of this piece implies. It’s my first purchase of the evening, my third of the show. One more similar painting titled “Mr. Kelley’s Boots” that I gifted back to my Aunt, the amazing artist, @rebecca.leer // It is currently estimated that 48,220 people (25,270 men and 22,950 women) will die of pancreatic cancer this year, corresponding to about 7% of all cancer deaths in the US. This is my Aunt @rebecca.leer Yesterday, she opened her solo exhibit “Ascent – A Perspective on Loss to Transformation” at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood, NJ. It is the culmination of over 15 years and 60 pieces of still lifes, landscapes and seascapes that encapsulate her journey following the passing of my Uncle Rob (Kelley) to pancreatic cancer in 2006. The show will run through Sep 29. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to the @lustgartenfdn the largest private funder of pancreatic cancer research.   I’m incredibly proud of this funny, strong, and talented woman. What can I say about my first time in The Hamptons other than “j’adore”? Many things, actually. A long (working) weekend, tucked away in a cute summer cottage nestled in the dunes of Amagansett was the Rx I desperately needed. It was a reminder to slow down, smell the sea breeze, and appreciate friends, family, and the little things that bring joy, happiness, and a smile.
