Finally developing/processing/posting some film which had been hanging out in my @kimc0905 supplied Yashica Microtec 70 (unofficially the sharpest 35mm point n shoot I have ever used) for a couple of years now. So much for develop promptly! #portra400 has almost become a meme if not a total caricature of itself, but it really shows its versatility here, grabbing the fading golden New Mexico light and preserving the moment of me standing in the middle of the road like a total tourist! What I notice here is less grain than seen in films based on older emulsions like Gold and Colorplus, and also a less exaggerated rendering of the golden sunlight. Gold 200 remains a favorite in 120, but for 35 I think, if 400 speed is needed, Portra is the one to grab. taken in Budville, New Mexico by @dv_over_dt

Welcome to 2026! In Boulder City. 2026 is nearly indistinguishable from 1966. And that alone is reason enough to drive out there, set the camera gear up, and let BC’s ambience wash all over you.
This one is from my GFX100S. The camera that justifies its existence every time I pull up an image like this and get lost in it cruising at 1:1. If you know, you know. But I haven’t abandoned film! That moment, when you wake up after a hard day of hanging around on the patio, solving the world’s problems with a bunch of good friends, and you notice that the table that you emptied your pockets out onto the night before is silently accusing you of cosplaying hipster, a mere decade or so after the hipster thing well and truly jumped the shark!

Ahh well, it’s OK, no need to worry. As you can see for yourself by swiping on my Christmas Eve outfit, I am in no danger of setting any fashion trends, not even a little bit! Especially worth noting is that people stopped taking selfies in a mirror back about the time MySpace stopped being relevant🤡

Confession time: I’m digging Lightroom’s new AI POWERED (🙀) dust removal feature. If you shoot, develop and scan your own film, this tool is a major quality of life upgrade. It won’t get them all. But it will get 75% of them, reliably. So I guess I stay on the Adobe train until someone else does it better. They earned my subscription fee this time. I’m gonna flag awesome Dallas photographer @justinterveen here, because he’s all in on film these days and doing it well, indeed. Film and dust sorta go together and this helps. Also, if you ever do ECN-2 at home, stray remjet has a way of popping up just where it isn’t wanted. This new Adobe tool gets rid of it, too.

Eventually all the hype will calm down and AI will become just another tool in the kit. And hey, shoot film! That negative is your proof that Stable Diffusion or Nano Banana did not make the image: you did. taken in Las Vegas Blvd by @dv_over_dt

Made on an LA trip from last December. Yep. I mean in my defense I did get the film developed by February 2025 and actually scanned into a camera not long after that. But the film was a rather weathered roll of Velvia 50 that had seen one too many trips from the desert heat to the film fridge. The color balance was heavily tinted towards blue on top of the already heavy tendency of Velvia to go magenta. So it took me a while to get around to processing all of this stuff and when I finally did, that old Velvia magic was hiding right underneath that white balance adjustment!
