Kill Your Inner Cool Girl for VALLEY Mag Issue 37

This shoot exemplifies our inner performer, urging us to examine where we censor and curate ourselves for external validation.

Loosely based on the 1999 Big Magazine editorial featuring Gisele Bündchen, this work plays into a larger history of women as subjugated performers, offering new frameworks for contemporary female confinement and ultimately liberation

happy pride to those of us who continue to love in the face of opposition; to those of us who find freedom on the dance floor and comfort in the warmth of friends and lovers.

Things left behind often find their way back to us, but will we be there for their homecoming?

Come find out this Saturday during the Staged Reading of Homecoming, a play by @chetaigbokwe that explores themes of return and arrival set in the home of a family still waiting.

After the Staged Reading will follow a Q & A with the playwright.

I am forever changed by my years in the mountains of state college. There were so many times I never thought I’d see the end, so many times I shared painful goodbyes and even more delightful hellos.

I survived this place by making, and reading, and listening. When the winters were tough I buried myself in my art and Alvin Ailey performances on Youtube and when the first flower bloomed in spring, I rejoiced with my loved ones with smiles in fields.

I’ve come to know truth in its prismatic existence. I’ve discovered the humility of the earth as well as the nobility of the stars.

Thank you for the death that gave way for my rebirth.
I am in the dandelions, in the Borland building, and in the wicked winds on a crisp January morning.

it’s been real @pennstate
thank you for the friends that transcend lifetimes 🫀
