Max’n & Relax’n💫 A media room decked out to get mega cozy with a 17’ x 15’ sectional. Plenty of space for the doggos and humans❤️ I had the builder close in the original bookshelf and closet because they were unneeded storage. We added basketweave grasscloth printed wallpaper takes the texture to a whole new level. Even at the ocean, there is cozy time needed to unwind inside. (Swipe ⬅️ for two Before shots) #dwellingjh

Let’s have a meal🤩 @mayseycraddock leads the energy of this space with her layered gouache paintings on recycled paper bags.(thank you @sarahshepardgallery) I found the 13’ antique French table at a design show and we decided To leave the ends open so the chairs don’t impede the visual extension into the ocean. I prefer one of a kind rugs as much as possible so I found one which could be trimmed down to fit the long narrow space. The 1984 built-in buffet was a great nod to the history of the house, so to update it, I found a zellige tile to clad the concrete top. (Swipe ⬅️ for the process and before shots) #dwellingjh

Let’s talk ART🎨🖌️📸The warmth of the Casual Entry space is often more directive of my client’s homes than the proper Entry. And this entry of my client’s Florida home gets the most play. Another antique Suzani launched the colors for the built-in stairwell bench. From there, we decided to develop a gallery wall in the stairwell( currently far from complete). @sarahshepardgallery helped me with a @okellyording, always delightfully curious work. A commissioned portrait from @connor.liljestrom of a family member amplified a robust color palate. And a charming large scale portrait from @lisakristinephotography rounds out the space between the stairs and the Dining Room. Art tells the stories of our hearts, souls and depths of our minds. Happy Friday people! It’s been a joy for me to relive this house and take you through the Great Room. Guess what?! There is still more to come🙃. More Living Room splendor🌟 (scroll ⬅️ for the evolution) More interactive games, more better! My client and I discussed creating a Living Room that allows for laptop work space, lots of play and rest. I was instantly giddy about reupholstering the existing chaise to connect the new ping-pong area with the sitting area. An @ahostudio from @mayafrodemangallery launched my color palette because art matters🫶. A basketweave grasscloth lines the bookshelves to soften the wall and bring more attention to that dope wood ceiling. Thankfully, it was easy to add the dimpled matte gold sconces for ambient lighting which plays so very well with the dark walnut ping-pong table🤤. Line up the parties and get ready to have some fun! #dwellingjh

Pairing Living Room beauty with function: The bar top table on the right is a place to work, looking out to the ocean. It’s also a spot to land when there are games being played. Ooook, here we go! Lil’ @tuckf pro photo action paired with my iPhone snappies to take you through the evolution and rhythm of this Living Room.

The original pastel drawing over the fireplace is indeed a pastel. A pastel drawing is a work of art created with colored powder pigment sticks. Think high end crayons, if you’re not familiar. My client found this at the Miami art show and hung it on the fireplace before I saw the house. We discussed the juxtaposition of glaciers with the warm Florida sea and decided it sparked great conversation.

Beach house magic💫 🌊🏝️☀️I’m starting here with a reel to walk you through the main living spaces. In following posts, I will highlight each space individually. I just can’t get enough of the architecture and light, which is exactly what I told the architect when I tracked him down. The house had been neglected and my client saw the bones for their inherent beauty and asked me to honor the lines, the Spanish tile floor, the old wood and then go to town on color. No surprise, @tuckf did such an incredible job capturing the energy of it all. What a gift of a project this was! by @dwellingjh

One of my beautiful amazing brilliant nanny-kiddos @alienright got married❣️✨🌈 and I got to take a bestie @funjoce as the best +1 ever to Spain❤️

Once upon a time when I was 23, I was a nanny for @jack_enright and Al-pal for 5-1/2 years while I was teaching art part time and going to design school. How @saraspring0927 and I sister-wifed it up so very well is a testimony to a mother’s trust in knowing what was best for her children. She never undermined my rules. She put so much trust and faith into my leadership, at 51 looking back, it kinda blows me away.🫶 People used to be rather judgy of my life path back then, before I started back to school and had any clue of how I was going to evolve in a career. It’s an odd thing, how people value the connection of humans so very little over earning a massive income. I stayed the course with my kiddos because we were having the best time.(except when I made them eat their veggies before ice cream😜) They taught me so very much about patience, innocence, having a backbone and being silly. There is no doubt about it, they have truly healed a part of my heart that I’m not sure I would have otherwise survived.

We’ve been building an adult friendship since 2019 and seeing each other over the pond pretty regularly now, for that distance anyway. My girl is no longer a girl. And I’m not surprised at all by the kind and honest woman she’s become. She was like that even by 4 years old when she said to me, “Kate. Kate. Kate. Do you know what I learned today? If you don’t give love, you can’t receive love.”

Heart bursting week of a love fest. Thank you, Sara and @buddyenright for sharing your children with me, so purely and graciously🥰 to say I love you all is where words fall hopelessly short❤️❤️❤️ by @dwellingjh

Precious Spaces✨ I liken the enjoyment of a great nook to be as wonderful as the feeling of sliding into freshie sheets at the end of a long day. Happiness is finding space to just be. And an antique Suzani takes the cake for launching a delightful color explosion that compliments all the blues of the ocean. Color. Texture. Special spaces. t’s what we do, together.
