The right paint color doesn't just change how a room looks. It changes how it feels to live there.

This soft sage does its work quietly. It shifts with the light throughout the day, adding depth in the morning, softness in the evening, and a sense of calm that settles into the space rather than calling attention to itself.

It's a reminder that the most meaningful design decisions are often the ones that don't ask to be noticed. They simply make a home feel more grounded, more personal, and more like the people who live there.

Because color is never just a backdrop. It's part of the story a home tells.

From there we build everything. A cohesive design concept and detailed space plan. Custom millwork and a kitchen designed around how the family actually cooks and gathers. Materials, fixtures, and finishes sourced to feel layered and personal rather than pulled from a catalog. That process is what makes the difference between a home that looks designed and one that feels like it could only belong to you.

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design?

That a bigger budget automatically means a better outcome.

The truth is, every project has a budget. Ours is to make it work as hard as possible.

That's where value engineering comes in. Not as a compromise, but as a design tool. We look for opportunities to save where it won't change the experience of the space, so we can invest where it really matters.

This dining table is one of my favorite examples. We started with a vision, then found this reclaimed bowling alley slab for just $140. It became the foundation for a completely custom piece with so much character.

That smart decision gave us room to splurge on the burl wood scoop-back chairs we loved, while mixing in affordable ghost chairs that kept the room feeling light and balanced.

Great design isn't about spending the most. It's about knowing where to spend, where to save, and how every decision contributes to the story of the home.

That's what full-service design really looks like behind the scenes.

The bones were fine. The personality was missing entirely.

The before was builder grade in every sense. Beige walls, a vanity that could belong to any house on the street, dated tile with no point of view. The after tells a completely different story. Sage green board and batten. A reeded wood vanity with brass hardware. A freestanding tub tucked into its own corner. And the scalloped tile in the shower that turns a functional space into the room everyone asks about.

Dwell Well Design Co. is moving.

After several years in our current studio, it was time for a space that reflects where this business is today, and where it's headed next.

These are a few of the "before" photos.

This studio will become the new home for Dwell Well Design Co., where we'll continue designing homes that are thoughtful, personal, and deeply connected to the people who live in them.

It's also where we're bringing a new idea to life.

Over the past year, we've been quietly building something we've dreamed about for a long time: the Dwell Well Design Collective, a shared studio and professional home for independent interior designers.

More on that soon.

For now, we're just excited to share the beginning.

Good rooms match. Great ones don't.

This room was designed around visual tension. Clean art deco lines in the built-ins paired with a vintage rug and a custom table made from a reclaimed bowling alley top. Warmth against precision. Grit alongside something refined. That push and pull is what gives a room its character. Without it, everything coordinates but nothing surprises.

This table started as a bowling alley top.

Finding the right piece in an unexpected place is one of my favorite parts of the process. Something with history, with character, that no one else would think to use in a dining room. That's how a room starts to feel collected rather than assembled. Not everything needs to be new. Sometimes the most interesting spaces are built around the things you find.

Every room has a story. This one just happens to start with a bowling alley.

Beautiful kitchens work hard.

If kitchens are the heart of the home, thoughtful storage is what makes them work.

We always begin with function. How does the family live? What needs to be stored? What deserves easy access? Where does everyday life tend to collect?
Only then do we layer in the elements that make a kitchen feel less like a workspace and more like a living space. Color. Texture. Warmth. Architectural details. Moments of beauty woven into the practical.

This kitchen is no exception. A few of the storage features integrated throughout the design:

• A hidden beverage center with retractable pocket doors keeps the coffee station ready for daily use while allowing everything to disappear when not in use. Finished in the kitchen's accent color and illuminated with integrated LED lighting, it feels equal parts functional and intentional. Open, it creates a moment within the room. Closed, it blends seamlessly into the architecture of the kitchen. A drawer microwave below keeps counters clear and functionality close at hand.
• The family command center conceals the reality of modern life behind cabinetry designed to feel like furniture. An invisible push-to-open panel reveals generous storage and more outlets than you can imagine, creating a dedicated home for all the things that tend to accumulate on kitchen counters.
• An integrated paper towel holder remains one of our favorite details. Easy to reach while cooking, but thoughtfully tucked away from countertop clutter.
• Vertical storage for cutting boards and baking sheets means no more digging through stacked piles to find what you need.
• A dedicated spice pull-out places seasonings exactly where they belong, within arm's reach of the range.
• A full-height double trash pull-out creates room for both waste and recycling while keeping everything concealed.

The best storage features are often the ones you never notice. They simply make daily life feel a little easier.

A new chapter begins.

While this project may look like a kitchen renovation, it’s really about reimagining an entire side of the home.

We’re moving walls, redesigning the mudroom, rethinking how spaces connect, and furnishing surrounding rooms to create a home that works more beautifully for the family who lives there. At the center of it all is a kitchen designed for gathering, cooking, entertaining, and everyday life.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing the journey from concept to completion. The plans, the materials, the decisions, and the countless details that transform a house into a home that feels uniquely its own.

Today’s glimpse is from design presentation day. The moment when months of planning, problem-solving, and creativity come together as we reveal the vision for the first time.

One piece can carry a room.

This sideboard does exactly that. The mirrored lattice panels, the warm finish, the way it grounds the entire wall around it. Everything else in the space responds to it. That is how we approach furniture selection on every project. Find the piece with a point of view, then build around it with intention.

I never start with a mood board.

Most designers do. I start with questions. How does this family actually move through their home? Where do they land at the end of the day? What should coming home feel like? The Dwell Well Edit is our signature discovery process built around exactly that. Once the story is clear, the visuals follow naturally. The aesthetic is never the starting point.

It's how we design homes that feel like they were always meant to be.
