WELCOME Jose to the faculty - his first season with us!

Learn more about Mr. Jose:
Mr. Jose Chavez has been in love with the performing arts ever since he was a young child. He began his career as a stage actor, but then instantly fell in love with ballet when he saw Fernando Bujones performing in Don Quixote and Mikhail Baryshnikov in The Nutcracker. Mr. Chavez received his early ballet training under the guidance of Teresa Wells, formerly of Kansas City Ballet and Paul Koverman, ballet master of California Ballet. Mr. Chavez was fortunate to also receive personal coaching from Fernando Bujones and David Howard. He was then awarded a full scholarship to attend the graduate program at Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre under the direction of Terence Orr and Marianna Tcherkassky where he then performed and trained with the company for three years. During this time he performed ballets such as Western Symphony choreographed by George Balanchine and the world premiere of Cleopatra choreographed and staged by Ben Stevenson. He also performed in ballets by great choreographers such as Dwight Rhoden and Twyla Tharp. Upon his graduation, Mr. Chavez was invited to dance with Boston Ballet Theatre under the direction of Jose Mateo. He later danced as a principal guest artist throughout the east coast, performing roles such as Cavalier in The Nutcracker, Prince in Cinderella, Albrecht in Giselle, Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Basilio in Don Quixote, and Prince Desire in Sleeping Beauty. Since retiring from professional dancing, Mr. Chavez has transferred his passion into teaching ballet throughout the nation for the past 20 years. His choreography and coaching has been internationally recognized and won several awards during that time, including 1st place at Youth America Grand Prix, California Dance Classics, and the Vienna International Ballet Experience.
Mr. Chavez feels privileged to have had such a wonderful career as a professional dancer, but is filled with a deep sense of gratitude to get to work with some of the most talented, passionate, and inspirational young dancers of our time. by @dwp.dance

What a weekend at KAR Nationals Dance competition @dancekar ✨
DWP brought 21 routines to the stage — and every single one placed in the Top 3.
All soloists ranked Top 5 in their age divisions, and we proudly swept the Queen titles.

But beyond the awards, what matters most is the growth, courage, and heart these dancers showed on stage.

This competition fell right on Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year —
and the dancers truly gave their families the most meaningful gift: their hard work shining under the lights.

So proud of our dancers, grateful for our families, and thankful for our teachers who make it all possible.
The journey continues ✨
