I have been enjoying doing quick watercolor color studies lately. No pencils allowed, and no more than 20 minutes spent on an image. Here's one from today.

It was a pleasure to paint a portrait of the @krapeve pack - Popcorn and Chestnut. This dynamic duo packs a lot of personality and I hope I captured that in this painting 🍿🌰💙

Between life and running @decoyholds I find it hard to make time for larger paintings. That being said, I love working on these mini watercolors. They allow me to easily explore ideas, and to improve upon techniques without feeling overly committed or concerned about the outcome. This one was inspired by a boulder that my friend Justin showed me up in VT.

“The Art of Hold Shaping”

Two weeks out from premiering our new film at the Somewhere Film Festival hosted at Ascent New Haven! May 15, 7-10pm.

somewhere studios presents an intimate documentary exploring the world of Dan Yagmin as the creative force behind Decoy Holds. Moving between wild landscapes, workshop process, and climbing walls, the film follows how raw inspiration becomes sculpted form. It’s a portrait of an artist shaping not just holds, but the way we experience climbing itself.

We’re super stoked for this and hope to see you there!!

P.s. it’s free event by @dy_illo
