Wyoming Wildwood
Yellow Mule’s Ears, Sunset Bridger-Teton NF
Bloomed 6-7-21
40 in. x 30 in., 2026
Available at @altamirafineart August 28

Somewhere near Star Valley, the sun was setting after a long, beautiful day in the wild spent with friends. The last rays of light cast a beautiful warm glow on the native grasses and wildflowers that surrounded us. It is said that good art can be measured but how it makes you feel, and time with good friends will always leave you feeling better than when you arrived.

Flower Day
Columbine and Bison Ranch, Cora, WY
Bloomed 8-24-23
Oil on Canvas 40 in. × 40 in., 2026

“The land has been made to blossom as the rose; like an oasis in the desert . . . nodding plumes of beauty fill the air with sweet perfume,” wrote the editor of the Pinedale Roundup in 1912. He was reporting on the very first Clark’s Flower Day, a celebration of springtime hosted by Bert and Anna May Clark. The Clarks established a Ranch on Duck Creek in Cora, Wyoming in 1902, later to be known as the CL Bar Ranch.

For nineteen years, the Clarks would invite the community to come spend the day on their ranch among the expansive gardens. Guests would enjoy picnicking, picking pails of strawberries, and eating ice cream. Menfolk looked at the tractors, canoes, and sailboats.

Historian Judi Myers writes, “The entrance to the ranch house was marked with rustic gates of curious design and craftsmanship. The pole fence was entwined with elk antlers. A large lawn with pebble lined paths, abundant foliage and a sundial greeted visitors to the annual Flower Days. In 1914 eighty people attended. By 1920 over 200 people came from as far away as Rock Springs, Lander and Kemmerer.”

Gone are the extensive gardens, but the wild things still grow on this land. Bison have replaced sheep, but the skies and hospitality of this land remains.

Available soon @altamirafineart Jackson. Opening August 28th.

Last night’s sunset, from atop a hill overlooking Phon D Sutton, (closed) where the Verde River is dumping its contents into the Salt.

Then on it goes to the Gila, and then the Colorado.

This was a surprise. The Verde River is relieving itself into the Salt River, in many places, the river is right next to the road. Never seen it this way.
This video starts with footage of the dam and then backtracks.

Arizona is dry and parched 🤣

One of the most ingenious engineering feats in Arizona, the Indian Bend Wash.

🌸Right Now: Go see Fall Garden After Dark, at the @dbgphx
It was so fun walking though the chilly air with @deanaraedesigns
and exploring the theatrical set-like art of Graphic Rewilding, founded by artists Lee Baker and Catherine Borowski. @graphic_rewilding

The new glowing pathways were pretty magical too.

To top off the night we got hear David George Haskel @davidgeorgehaskell share the mindblowing science and wonder of how flowers really did (and are) changing the world.

Get outside, see art, learn more about the natural world!

Commissioned work

In August of 2025, my husband and I took a southwest roundtrip though Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. It was spectacular to say the least, but this monumental moment was one of my very favorites.

On the first day of our trip, we visited the historic Hubbell trading post and Canyon de Chelly in northeast Arizona. The skies were dramatic, changing from crystal blue to grey thunderstorms throughout the day. The ground was saturated with rainwater as we pulled into Goulding’s Lodge at Monument Vallery for the night.

This lodge began as a small trading post in the 1920’s by Leone and Harry Goulding. During the Depression, the Gouldings took their own road trip to Hollywood, where they convinced director John Ford to come to the valley and make a movie. When Hollywood arrived, they created one of the most iconic western films ever made; Stagecoach, starring John Wayne. The red earth and dramatic buttes of the Navajo nation were now famous worldwide.

Sunsets are beautiful here, but the sunrise behind the famous buttes is a must-see. We rose early, poured a cup of coffee, and sat on the little porch to watch the show. Nearby, a desert willow’s blooms were swaying in the breeze. I was enthralled with both the grand spectacle of sunrise, and the small yet beautiful part the willow was playing in the production. The fresh light danced around the leaves and transparent violet-scented flowers, as if choreographed.

Moments like these in the Southwest are better than a movie, and unforgettable.

See Canyon is just about at peak color right now, it was a splendid day off in the woods. A bit congested at the trailhead, but as is usually the case, the further you hiked, the less people there were. We had the spring all to ourselves.

Go see the color this week if you can, you’ll have to scoot over the log to get over the creek, and please leave no trace. ❤️🍁🥾
