~ ‘Yerrowah wonwin’ for @lennix.smith which means ‘meeting place where there are big fish’. This is the areas indigenous name. It depicts the songlines of the wodi wodi ancestors showing the locations where they camped, hunted, fishing spots, gathering grounds, burial sites and story places. It’s also called Shellharbour now which refers to some of the biggest shell middens ever found, and anyone travelling there these days will see Lennox in the ocean along these songlines displaying his strong connection to country 🪃 by @dyl_robo

“ This painting tells the story of the connection between the ocean and the mountains for the wodi wodi people. The centre of the story shows the songlines depicting the journey from the ocean then inland through the middle of the mountain ranges. The circles are the significant cultural sites on this migration. During Marrai’gang season (april to June) the salt water people would travel from Bass Point to Macquarie Rivulet along this track for shelter and food during these colder seasons. The track (now called tongarra road) was used for over 17000 thousands years “ ~ @dyl_robo Just want to say a massive thank you to Dyl for painting this board for me. ~ Albion Park Primary Indigenous Cultural Centre - This school stands on an ancient aboriginal track now known as tongarra road. This track was used for thousands of years by the wodi wodi people for trading and migrating. This painting tells the story of that connection between the ocean and the escarpment. Nowadays the daily migration of kids walking to and from school follow this track keeping up the tradition by @dyl_robo
