We’re still sweeping up the debris from an explosive day here at the Ronsbury Cultural Archive. The Museum of Ronsbury opened its doors to Folkestone on Saturday, and open they shall remain (Mon - Fri) until the end of the month.

Many thanks to @cymaarchitectsltd for hosting us and to @balfourbeer for lubricating the whole affair.

Watch this space for future events and educational programs as we continue our mission to bring the surprising history of Ronsbury to the people.

The tourist information centre in Ronsbury not only serves as a valuable location for lucky visitors to the area to gather their bearings, but as a place for residents to advertise their services and pass on their preloved wares. Pop down today and be welcomed with smile.

‘Dicky’s Freaks’

Richard “Dicky” Twiddle, famous philanthropist and founder of Ronsbury based and much celebrated freak-show, ‘Dicky’s Freaks’, lead an unorthodox life. Despite being a towering public figure, Richard was a painfully private man. His personal life remains shrouded in mystery and speculation. Legends include:

- Fighting in the Boer War wearing nothing but a shammy leather and wielding nought but his British fists
- Coining the term, ‘fuck-a-doodle-do’
- Walking from Dover to Calais along the sea bed
- Sleeping once a fortnight
- Single-handedly destroying an entire Belgian hamlet
- Domesticating seals
- Inventing the mini-fridge
- Discovering Thanet

‘Dicky’s Freaks’ was an adaptation of his father, Brigadier Benjamin Twiddle’s personal subservient entourage, which Richard inherited on his father’s death in 1892. by @dylan_hall_

Thank you to everyone who bore witness to the grand opening of The Museum of Ronsbury last week. Due to lack of funds the museum has been forced to close its doors. They will remain closed until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience.
