🎵 Autograph “turn up the radio” 📻

Played on the first guitar I got as a kid. (Thanks Mom @maryspencesmith ❤️) An entry level Yamaha Pacifica that I’ve hotrodded with some upgraded pickups and fret work courtesy of @mattsguitars

🔹Fun fact: in 1985 the guitarist Steve Lynch won “Solo of the year” awarded by Guitar Player Magazine for this epic solo 🤘🏻 🔥

I could listen to hair metal all day and never get tired of it. Every one of these bands had a guitarists competing to be the best, chase the best tone, come up with the most amazing solos and riffs. It was a golden era of guitar playing that inspired guitarists like me to this day.

Rocking out with a little Alice In Chains “man in the box” which has always been one of my favorite solos. Super fun to play. Maybe eventually I’ll get together with a group and do some cover gigs 🤘🏻 by @dylan_smith_dmori

Everyone wants progress, few are willing to master the fundamentals first.

1) Strength is the foundation. Everything gets easier once you have built up a strong base of calesthenics and foundational strength training

2) Check your ego at the door. You can’t force a lift that you’re not strong enough for.

3) Quality technique will apply the correct stress to the working musculature and mitigate injury risk.
Learn how to lift from someone who truly knows what they are doing. 90% + of the time you should be operating underneath the threshold of where you experience technique breakdown.

4) Long term consistency beats out short term motivation every time

5) Clearly define your goal and make sure that your training plan reflects it.

6) Do not attempt to train through pain.
The deeper you dig yourself into the hole of injury the harder it is to bounce back.

7) Recovery and training must be in balance. You can’t outwork poor sleep and lacking nutrition. Training applies a stimulus to your body from which you must recover. Once the body recovers, it can then make adaptation.

8) Mind-muscle connection matters. It takes time to develop the feel and control necessary over your body to truly reap maximum benefits from your training. There is no shortcut to this.

9) Periodization is key. Your training should be organized over time to drive you toward your goal. Don’t just repeat the same exact set/rep ranges and exercises week after week expecting progress.

10) Apply variation in your training but also ensure consistency. You don’t need to rotate exercises every single week.

11) Log your progress. Keep a written training log (digital or pen & paper). Make notes on how you slept, your nutrition/hydration and stress level. Over time, you will eventually find out what works best for your own goals.

Without data, you will be flying blind hopping from one program to the next without any idea of what works for you. Ask yourself “is my lack of progress a training issue? Sleep? Nutrition? Stress level?”

“Something in the orange” by Zach Bryan

I’ve been embarrassed to sing in front of others my whole life. Outside of a few close friends and that one time I got drunk at a party in college and was asked to serenade everyone with the entire Dashboard Confessional discography 😂

But hey…. fuck fear!

Hoping to get myself into a semi respectable spot and get out and busk or open mic with some friends even if that means I’m just playing or backup vocals! by @dylan_smith_dmori
