queen dido of carthage!

whilst reading the aeneid for a-level classics, one particular scene always stuck with me - dido’s death scene in book 4 of the aeneid. a woman who resorts to death after her husband and his people desert her. the way virgil paints her as both a sympathetic and tragic character, the extended doe similes, comparing her love for aeneas as a fire and disease eating away at her, whist also providing aetiology for hannibal’s attack on rome? no words….
