This is one of the hardest thing’s I’ve had to play in a long time; actual polyrhythms on one stringed instrument are pretty rare so it’s never come up before. 7/8 in the left hand, 4/4 in the right hand. Still rough but I’m too stoked not to post

@monowhales dropped their stellar new EP last week, and as usual I’m late to posting about it because social media gives me anxiety! Of course the only evidence of the process I have is gear documentation.

The word that comes to mind instinctively about this EP is proud. These three people are not only some of the most talented people I know (in so so so many ways beyond they outwardly projected band roles), but easily some of the most hardworking, driven, and tenacious people I’ve ever met.

After two years of touring with them consistently, this body of work feels like an uncannily accurate encapsulation of the lightning in a bottle experience of a monowhales show.

I couldn’t be more excited to have been asked to play on a couple of these songs, to help capture the live feel of the band. These are some of my favorite recordings of my playing and tones ever captured, this record sounds fantastic.

@zachzanardo crushed it stepping into the producer role, and everyone in the band really put their heart and soul into these songs, (part why they’re such incredible songs) something I am one of the lucky few to see, please go give it a listen, and listen loud.

NERDY STUFF:

On “Hear me out” I used my @fender DLX precision bass tuner BEAD with a wizard P pickup, DR hi beams, into an Archer klon clone. Signal was split between my SVT helix sim, with an 810 IR and a real SVT with a 410, as seen in the pictures. I believe the combination of the two was the primary blend for the song.

“Backbone” was recorded on my @dingwallguitars NG-2 5 string into a @darkglasselectronics B7K straight into the UAD SVT plugin.
