Experience of a lifetime. I just don’t see how marathons get much better than this. Special, special event.

This was also particularly special because yesterday marked 1 year of sobriety for me. Running has become a big part of my recovery this past year so coming home to do this race as my first marathon meant the world to me.

Simply put, I was faced with a decision a year ago where I was either going to accept help or drink myself to death. This past year has been filled with faith, accountability, getting honest, and finding some humility.

The beautiful thing is my life today is beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined for myself and I had very little to do with it. I’m the product of a lot of remarkable people, both in Boston and South Florida, that continue to go out of their way to help me on a daily basis.

We’re running it back at the 131st Boston Marathon! I have the opportunity to raise money for MSPCC, a vital organization championing the prevention of child abuse and domestic violence, addressing substance abuse and mental health inside of the home, and supporting families.

As someone who struggled with substance abuse for most of my adult life, I have a deep admiration towards the charitable efforts of MSPCC and the selfless work they have been doing for almost 150 years.

On a more personal note, on the day of the 131st Boston Marathon (April 19th, 2027) I will, God willing, be celebrating 2 years sober. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than running for MSPCC as we share the same enthusiasm around running and helping people.

It is truly a gift to be able to do these things today. Running has completely changed my life. Paired with working a diligent program of recovery alongside the men of Alcoholics Anonymous, this running journey has developed into something beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve re-learned what it takes to be consistent, disciplined, accountable, and operate with extreme focus. Tools and traits that I now apply to my everyday life.
