Our family is navigating an incredibly difficult season after learning that Kirsten has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC) — an EXTREMELY rare and aggressive kidney cancer associated with the sickle cell trait.

Kirsten has now been advised to seek treatment at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas because there is very limited guidance and experience available locally in Illinois for treating this rare disease. @mdandersoncancercenter

At this time, we are respectfully INQUIRING to see if anyone knows of:

✈️ Companies or corporations that sponsor cancer patients
🏨 Lodging assistance programs near MD Anderson
🚗 Travel assistance programs or airline assistance
🍽 Food assistance or meal programs @ronaldmcdonaldhouse
💵Financial assistance agencies for cancer patients
🩺 Nonprofits that help families navigating Stage 4 cancer
🙏 Churches, organizations, or community programs that may help support Kirsten during treatment

Kirsten is currently unable to work, and our family is trying to learn what resources may be available to help lighten this burden during treatment and travel.

We are not begging, we are simply asking questions, learning, researching, and trying to understand what help and support systems exist for families facing situations like this.

I’m honored to be a part of the Kidney Cancer Association Virtual Symposium this week. I want to help bring awareness in anyway possible. I don’t know what all to expect, but being educated on how and why is important to me because my daughter Kirsten was diagnosed with STAGE 4 RENAL MEDULLARY CARCINOMA (a very rare and aggressive Kidney cancer) in April. Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC) is a rare, aggressive kidney cancer most often linked to sickle cell trait. SEPTEMBER is SICKLE CELL AWARENESS month.
