@imooshell likes grinds, I like the sounds of wheels on tiles. Actually, I’d also prefer the grinds, too. Oh well! Eight years between sessions at this wonderful place. Forgot to take a photo of the view. Saw some remnants of the horrid fire on the drive. Favorite quotes from Michelle-“did you see me slow down to make the trick?” And “my hair looks so long.” I was trying to keep from slowing down. Not sure where I’ll be in eight years, so hopeful that Michelle gets invited back soon. by @dyoon31

Don’t get to skate as much as I used to or with My Baby @imooshell, but when I do, I always enjoy doing so. I noticed my runs are longer, but about half the video is me trying to end the run in a safe way. From graduation, to a Father’s Day skate date, her birthday that is also the same date as Go Skateboarding Day, to trying out the San Juan Capistrano Skatepark for the first time (second time for her), I’ll always treasure my time spent with my youngest one. My wife asked me today when I plan to quit skating. Never will I plan for that! @jinzohh1223 and @journi_1223 told her that I’ll never stop. I did throw in a photo of my Grandbaby! I’ll choose her over skating, but planning to skate with her in a few years. taken in San Juan Capistrano, California by @dyoon31

Some videos and photos of our trip to Exposure 2024 last weekend with Michelle (@imooshell), her mom and me. Good to see Michelle back on board in the Intermediate Vert and Longest Grind competitions. I wasn’t able to check out the street competition, but the Vert and Bowl skating was on a much higher level than was I saw in previous Exposures. 540s were easily done by multiple skaters, and high altitudes backside airs are now set up tricks for most of them. Photo of the parking lot was included because Michelle had to prove to me that a few spaces were available at the lot closer to the action. Thankful to my wife who joined us and enjoyed watching Michelle skate. The longest grind/slide competition made us both nervous with several of the girls all trying to drop in at the same time, but Michelle told us later that it was a lot of fun. There were many close calls and even on hard collision, but thankfully no one was hurt. Looking forward to next year. Last photo of My Cutie (@skimchaa) and our Grandbaby! I hope she also skates like her Eemo (Korean for aunt). taken in The Encinitas Skate Plaza by @dyoon31

When visiting @jinzohh1223 and @giannakim1223, I always plan a visit to Newark Skatepark which has one of my favorite bowls to ride. Again, to my horror, there was a deep puddle in the deep end. Taking a closer look, I found poor Froggy resting in peace in the water, after I’m sure was a valiant but ultimately failed attempt to survive. I will forever refer to it as The Froggy Bowl. I had to ride the shallow bowl instead under the heat that went up to 95+ before leaving. In respect to Froggy, I made the effort to get a frontside carve grind and then did so on a consistent basis. by @dyoon31

After seven years, the persimmon tree is finally full of fruit. We’ve had only five persimmons this whole time, and I’m looking forward to this crop finally being bountiful. Orange tree is also doing well. My wife says it’s the chicken poop fertilizer. My Grandbaby also seems to love plants, and added a photo of her, because, well, why not? She’s my favorite flower! taken in Buena Park, California by @dyoon31

First concert in over twenty years! First time ever at the Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa. Very nice venue with great acoustics. Rushed home from work in LA to home in Buena Park and then off to Costa Mesa in time for the pre-concert talk with Alan Chapman who I’ve heard on KUSC for many years. The conductor, orchestra and choir (and the four soloists for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony) were all impressive. First time I heard foot tapping to the Ode to Joy theme. I guess it’s in the style of a march, so perhaps moving one’s foot to the beat might not be so bad. The wife of M Lauridsen, composer of the first piece of the night, worked with me at one of my old schools. She had a masters in piano performance from USC, and we would play Mozart four hand piano sonatas together. It was free piano lessons for me, and I got to experience how so much differently musicians who were well trained and practiced for thousands of hours approached music, even if they were sight reading a piece for the first time. Beethoven’s 9th, imho, is the highest achievement ever accomplished in all of music. What an experience to have a dead center view of the orchestra, have all the musicians playing and singing directed toward me, and the person next to me tapping his foot to the beat! taken in Segerstrom Center for the Arts by @dyoon31

A happy five year anniversary to @jinzohh1223 and @giannakim1223 and a post Merry Christmas to all of you. First photo is probably the last family photo taken where we were all together. 2nd photo is how we take family photos these days. Rest are from our trip to Korea for the wedding and some recent ones. Resting and trying to get rid of a nagging cough the past few days, so I can go skate and hold my Grandbaby! by @dyoon31

Brea session with my old skate partner @imooshell who actually woke up early (for her) to come out with her old man. Video of me by @sk8hsu. Another Happy Birthday shoutout to @albolee — don’t listen to my skate advice! The video I took of him was after a nasty fall, but after wiping up the blood, he went right back at it! Way to go! Thanks for the invite! taken in Brea Skatepark by @dyoon31

My Baby aka @imooshell at the Orchid Skateboard Competition on Labor Day. Sorry about my filming of her run-the other runs weren’t filmed any better. Thank you to @surerell for the photos. Cheryl also got a shot of Michelle napping during all the craziness happening (not posted here). I’m going to blame my poor ability to follow Michelle on her runs due to my water soaked shoes and socks that got that way because my wife and I got caught by a wave that crept on us by surprise when walking on the nearby beach. Michelle got a well deserved 3rd place. My wife thought she should have been first or second! Michelle skated the whole bowl at full speed and had the highest airs over the hips and gaps. She’s always number one in my heart! I’ve also included a photo of My Grandbaby, because she’s adorable. taken in Dos Pueblos Orchid Farm by @dyoon31

Venice 2023
Check out this video from @girlisnota4letterword that perfectly captures the spirit and fun last Saturday. @imooshell has two cameos-she’s the first skater featured riding in the “sunken bowl” and a little later, gives a hand to a younger skater climbing out of the smaller bowl. I covered my face and neck with sunblock, wore a hoody to protect me from the sun rays, but forgot about my knees! I now have glowing red knees! It was more than worth the pain, but I’ll be smarter next time. by @dyoon31

Our annual trip to Venice Skatepark a little after our 12 year anniversary of @imooshell’s first skating experience and my return to skating after around 33 years. Michelle would wake up early every Saturday morning to go with Josh Nash and me to Venice. After about six months skating solely at Venice or Belvedere, I learned about the Cove Skatepark and that became our second home. Venice Skatepark will always have a special place in my heart, for it is where Michelle learned how to skate, snake the old guys in the snake run, told off by one old fool who told me that this skatepark is for people like him (he was pointing to Michelle and I just ignored him), and watched with worry when Michelle was too close to when a group of Venice locals surrounded some kook who was cutting in on people’s runs in the snake run. I usually don’t use words like fool or kook, but since it’s Venice with all its diversity, those words may be fitting. Anyways, always good to see @skater_made Bart on the mike, @bennettharada ripping the pool on a cruiser board, @lhiramoto helping out behind the scenes and all the incredible skating that goes on in this crazy place. Always looking forward to the next Venice event! I’m so sorry for not tagging all the special people in our life! It’s always a pleasure to meet, skate, and cheer each other on! Also, I’ve become fascinated for some silly reason about google maps description of the “sunken pool.” I thought I was searching for hidden treasure, which in a way describes Venice to me. My longest post, but I go back to work on Monday, and I’m not ready! taken in Venice Skatepark by @dyoon31
