We talk about the Elder Futhark all the time but we rarely talk about the runes used in Anglo-Saxon England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

The Anglo-Saxon Futhorc developed from the older Elder Futhark and was adapted to fit the sounds of Old English. Over time, new runes were added, creating a larger and rather fascinating runic tradition.

What I love about it is that it reminds us that runes were never one fixed, universal alphabet. They evolved with languages, places and people.

And honestly, I think Anglo-Saxon runes deserve way more attention. They connect archaeology, language, manuscripts and early medieval history in such a fascinating way.

I might make a whole series about them next, rune by rune, with their historical context and surviving inscriptions ⚔️

Do you know ?
Known primarily from the famous Gundestrup Cauldron, Cernunnos is one of the most enigmatic figures of ancient Gaulish religion. His name is usually connected to the idea of the “horned one”, and he is often represented seated among animals, wearing antlers.

Rather than a simple “god of nature”, Cernunnos seems to embody a much broader relationship between humans, animals and the wild. His imagery evokes abundance, the untamed world, fertility and the cycles of life but much about him remains uncertain.

Discover the true legend of the werewolf before Hollywood rewrote it !

With @roberteggers_ @werwulfmovie bringing us back to medieval England, I wanted to return to the stories that existed long before cinema gave us silver bullets, full moons and the rules we now associate with werewolves !

In Marie de France's Bisclavret, a 12th-century nobleman transforms into a wolf, yet retains his intelligence, his identity and his sense of justice. In Guillaume de Palerne, the werewolf is not a monster at all, but a victim of enchantment and an ally to the heroes.

The medieval werewolf could therefore be cursed, betrayed, transformed but not necessarily evil !

He existed somewhere between human and animal, civilisation and wilderness, identity and metamorphosis. And this is exactly what makes the subject so fascinating to me as an artist and researcher of medieval folklore.

So when Werwulf takes us to England in 1305, I couldn't resist going back to the sources and asking: What did the medieval werewolf actually looks line ? 💀

🍁LEAVE THE OLD BEHIND🍁

I created this runic symbol around the idea of rebirth, the moment when you finally decide to stop carrying what no longer belongs to you.

There is something powerful in accepting that some chapters are meant to end. Not everything needs to be repaired, understood, or taken with us. Sometimes, transformation begins simply by letting go !

To me, rebirth is not becoming someone else.
It is returning to yourself, without everything that once weighed you down.
