I’ve been falling back in love with running this year, particularly in the last few months as a way to get me through placements

I’m in awe of what my body can do after going through such a major surgery but I still sometimes take it for granted

Last week I skipped a long run and felt terrible about it, but I completed my intervals session and a 5km, both runs felt really good and I even got a 5km PB

But today, I had pain with every step. I wasn’t running and I wasn’t even walking with purpose. My left hip had just had enough

It’s my reminder to be so grateful that the pain is only in one hip and not both anymore and to take a bit more of a rest and take care before my next session and that maybe skipping my long run was the right call by @dysplastic.elisha

It’s safe to say I have been making the absolute most out of being able to move my body again since my hardware removal…

For me, my operation has been extremely successful, I’m in awe at how I can run, train and live without any right hip pain. I didn’t believe it would be possible to be honest. Some of my hip and leg muscles are still weak and tight (mostly my own fault) but the difference between pre-op and now is insane

Sadly, I can’t say the same for my left hip

As I’ve begun moving my body more intently again, training and running and overall increasing my load, my left hip now has a lot to say about it, and it’s not very nice. This means that I’m likely coming to another PAO + FO on my left side. It’s roughly scheduled for November this year but is subject to change (because my surgeon is amazingly considerate)

I’ve been pretty wishy washy with this account but now want to use it to document my entire journey with my left hip operation. I’d really like to get my right leg and hip much stronger to carry me through and then I’d like to document my entire recovery as it’s going to be quite intense as I’m hoping to begin working as a new graduate in early 2027

Here we go again… by @dysplastic.elisha

Hello! Long time no post 🤪

I’m officially 13 months post-op and I’ve achieved so much. I’ve got back into the gym, travelled to Bali, been camping (crutches free) and am feeling good!

I’m struggling slightly with some general muscle weakness and pain but it’s incomparable to my pre-op pain.

My most recent scans so complete bony healing of my Femur and Pelvis 🥳

I have now been scheduled for hardware removal on November 11th because my hardware has been giving me so much grief. Due to uni placements coming up, I’m delaying my L) PAO and FO

Til next update 🫡 by @dysplastic.elisha

Long time, no post!!
After a loooong 5 months, I finally dropped my crutches in late December 2024

Since I’ve posted, I…
🩵 worked retail as a christmas casual (on crutches)
🩵 spent Christmas crutches free!
🩵 travelled to western sydney for placement
🩵 stayed and explored sydney for a few extra days with @jazlyn.burgoyne
🩵 have started going on walks again
🩵 have gone back to uni for the year
🩵 am working towards being able to run again
🩵 have become slightly obsessed with @lskd clothes
🩵 have spent SO MUCH time being amazed at the human body - I could hardly walk about 4 months ago and here I am, it’s insane by @dysplastic.elisha

October has been an insane month!!
🩵 I turned 22 🥳
🩵 Finished my Uni exams (except one)
🩵 Still walking with one crutch
🩵 Had my first proper swim since surgery
🩵 Went to my Uni’s end of year ball
🩵 Moved out of Uni for the year
🩵 Spent quality time with people I love
🩵 Booked my next surgery (LPAO & FO) for late next year
🩵 Was a bit too harsh on myself for not recovering as fast as I’d like, but also learnt to trust my body and the healing process by @dysplastic.elisha

My “new” hip has seen lots of hours in the car since returning to uni!
💚
Unfortunately I live about 3.5hrs away from campus and between classes and appointments I’ve been making the dash back and forth for 3 weeks now!
💚
I’m not cleared for driving yet so I’m very lucky to have a great friend who lives near me and also attends the same Uni who has so graciously driven me up and back each time by @dysplastic.elisha

What hip dysplasia looks like as an infant vs young adult!

My dysplasia was diagnosed when I was about 6 weeks old. My specialist prescribed a fixed abduction brace and I made those hip sockets all by myself 🥳

Sadly…they still weren’t deep enough! When I reached about 18/19 years old I started to develop pain at rest and during sports. This pain grew and eventually led me to my PAO and FO.

It’s been a long journey (21 years in the making) but I’m so grateful for the amazing medical care we have that allows me to be in this position. 💚🩼

Ultimately, I can do it with a broken hip! 🤪🦴 by @dysplastic.elisha

Alrightyyyy it’s been a while since the last update because your girl has been BUSY
💚 I am 50% weight bearing with a single crutch for short-medium distances
💚 I have been back to Uni and participated in a simulation week
💚 I went to Beauty and the Beast in Melbourne which was phenomenal
💚 Going out in public with crutches is not very easy and lots of people are very inconsiderate
💚 I have played a LOT of Hogwarts Legacy
💚 I am finally feeling human again
💚 I have had some issues with heart palpitations and therefore have had monitors and scans and am awaiting results, this is mostly precautionary and my cardiologist is not overly concerned

My next surgeon’s appointment is on October 11 and I’m excited to see what’s next! by @dysplastic.elisha

3 weeks + 2 days post op! Here’s a list of things I can do this week that I couldn’t this time last week…

💚 Sleep on my side! (non-operative side of course)
💚 Sleep on my tummy!
💚 Step my operated leg forward at the same time I move my crutches! This has made crutching around much smoother and faster (I’m still only touch weight bearing which is 10% of my body weight)
💚 Independently transfer most of the time! (I’m still having trouble lifting my operated leg onto the bed since it’s quite high and the surface is quite soft)
💚 Begin rehab physio exercises!

It’s a marathon but so far we’re slaying ✨ by @dysplastic.elisha

It’s been a big week!!
With 3 weeks post op coming up tomorrow, we’ve been quite busy…

🩷 Pic 1: Enjoying some spring rolls and Modern Family, I’ve been very lucky to have my family at home with me helping with my meals! Whilst I’m mainly sitting on the couch, I do get up and crutch around as much as I can!
🩷 Pic 2: 6 day post-op leg comparison! You can definitely see the swelling of my post-op leg (right) compared to my left
🩷 Pic 3: Me and my partner who has been an amazing nurse and support helping me to feel as independent as possible!
🩷 Pic 4: Bruising from my arterial line is finally going down!
🩷 Pic 5: I managed to jump in the car with my amazing supportive mum and make the trek to Albury to attend my Uni Residential Ball! I was very sore afterwards but so glad I made the effort to attend
🩷 Pic 6: Pre-op X-Ray of my Right hip and femur
