Long overdue post as the sale is over, but sharing again for the archive—hoping to document and share much more this year, new and old!

I’ve really no knack for self-promotion, but just popping in to share a story/piece from this past year–probably my proudest achievement of the works in my solo show this past may @baugallery

Quite the journey, I began this piece a year ago in the wake of my grandmother’s passing while in residence at the @peterbulloughfoundation . Coming from her funeral I wasn’t steadfast in producing much of anything in all honesty, but staying in Peter’s home stirred a mix of feelings. His coupled homes were converted into dual lodging and studio spaces, upholding his flairs and providing access to his art & rare book collection for creatives and community members alike. I’d never been in a home quite like his, and certainly not with that many fireplaces before!

My time and experiences at the PBF allowed me to reflect more on the ways in which legacy manifests itself both in the material/inanimate, as well in the motivations of those who remember. The spaces we occupy, build, and curate throughout our lives are their own testament to survival, love, and lineage. I was inspired to construct my own imagined house and think on the journey of building my life thus far.

In the year since Mary’s passing, my Mother and her siblings have started the process of consolidating her home: imported silk paintings and furniture from her childhood in Hong Kong, her modest church finest, novelty Homer Simpson bottleopeners, floppy discs with photos of trips to England. Home is about people as much as it is about the tangibilities that reflect our humanity. As the climate crisis only intensifies and as access to affordable housing dwindles, my heart grows heavy with consideration for those directly impacted and at risk. Housing is a human right and Home is a place I am constantly building—and so grateful and lucky to do so.

At the word limit, so specific inspirations are written in the comments, and if you’ve read this all, thank you for indulging my bradshawian prose.

In case you missed it, I’m delighted to share my solo show Precious Stones will be opening tomorrow (!) this Saturday at @baugallery in their Beacon Room. I’ll be there throughout the day, but hope to see you for the opening reception from 6-8pm. Endless thanks to @nataliyahines for her thoughtful curation and championing of my spirit throughout this journey. It’s been an absolute pleasure to craft.

On a personal note: Art is the thing i reach for when words alone do not suffice, it is my way of making sense of it all, so it’s tricky to sum this experience and the making of this body of work—but without sounding too saccharine, this feels like a bench mark moment! Joy and grief and all of my love made evident!

Eternal gratitude and thanks to you all for your kindness and support of my vision, it’s not lost on me. Thank you 🩵🪨

On View: May 10th - June 8th

I’m delighted to announce the upcoming opening of “Precious Stones,” a solo exhibition by Iain Wall that I’ve had the pleasure of curating. The show opens May 10th with an opening reception at 6PM at BAU Gallery in Beacon, NY.

“Collaging cobblestone, brick, and stained glass motifs, Wall builds an ornamental vocabulary that not only emphasizes physical presence but draws parallels between the labor and temporality of building and that of human connection. The hatched marks of etching and the transference of plaster prints further showcase their everlasting quality. Between interior and exterior, ornamentally seen and graphically staring back, Wall’s work seeks to question the nature of presentation, what it means to queer the outline, and the transformative power of objecthood — how pictorial weight and tangibility become testaments.”

Wall holds a BFA in Printmaking with a concentration in Art History from RISD, and has exhibited at institutions including the RISD Museum, Chautauqua School of Art, and The Peter Bullough Foundation.

“Dissection Theatre” 💐🎭
~ 96” x 66”
collage, monotype, acrylic, image transfer, pastel, charcoal, basically everything but the kitchen sink

Went and did my big one!
Inspired by the most idyllic summer @chq.art, making little bouquets with each stroll around the lake, pondering the principles thrill, fill, and spill, trying to swallow every striking ray and regurgitate it through my hands, the act of plucking flowers became not unlike painting—arranging color and form in a dance of playful discovery, feeling so very blessed to share in the act of creation with the world, and with you all.

“sometimes my eyes are so heavy, my gaze cuts across the horizon and i question ‘who am i to think i may capture it all?’ and then, unfurling my lashes i find that panoramic epiphany”

Endless love and thanks to innumerable people 🩵

thinking a lot about flowers, everyday aesthetics & ephemeral beauty, how things may grow or cease to with reason and accepting the value of both. so much love and joy to you all this spring 🤍🌸
