this piece is “her lover (goodbye naivety, my sweet niche,)” from 2025-26 and my favorite of recent. it’s oil on linen. the summer of love has come to an end. my first solo show. taken in Galerie Nicolas Robert by @e.m

Opening 18 July: Em Davenport: love

Vernissage: Saturday, July 18, 3–6 pm at Galerie Nicolas Robert, Montreal

Galerie Nicolas Robert is pleased to present Em Davenport’s first solo exhibition in Canada, presenting a new body of works around the theme of love.

“love”

to experience shifting illusions that are constructed as a way to deal with the post-haste terror of heartbreak. to lean on a newfound philosophy and see it through is to experience love, not necessarily with certainty but with a desire to understand and feel. it is represented here as pop art psychedelia that you have projected onto before and will again. you listen to that song that sends you through to the other side or was it— that movie, that book, that friend, that party? to also consider what portion of heartbreak is to remain private or intimate and explode any notions of it. to swallow the ache with this unknowing color that calls to me like a psychic vision. to be an artist that has to consider “love” for the first time.

« love »

faire l'expérience d'illusions mouvantes, construites comme une manière de composer avec la terreur foudroyante du cœur brisé. s'appuyer sur une philosophie nouvellement trouvée et s'y tenir, c'est faire l'expérience de l'amour — non pas avec certitude, mais avec le désir de comprendre et de ressentir. il se manifeste ici sous la forme d'une psychédélie pop sur laquelle vous avez déjà projeté vos propres émotions, et sur laquelle vous les projetterez encore. vous écoutez cette chanson qui vous fait passer de l'autre côté. ou était-ce ce film, ce livre, cet ami, cette fête ? réfléchir aussi à la part du chagrin d'amour qui demeure privée, intime, et faire éclater toutes les idées que l'on s'en fait. avaler la douleur à travers cette couleur insaisissable qui m'appelle comme une vision médiumnique. être une artiste amenée à considérer, pour la première fois, « l'amour »
