Hofacker School Complex⁠ ⁠ As part of Open House Zürich 2026, the Hofacker School Complex in Zürich-Hirslanden opens its doors to the public. The ensemble of three buildings from different periods provides an exemplary approach to developing an existing site. The listed buildings by Friedrich Wehrli (1898) and Hermann Herter (1938) were renovated and complemented by a new building.⁠ ⁠ The hybrid structure of recycled concrete, steel and timber brings together 15 classrooms, a library and a triple sports hall under one roof. The project marks the office’s first private house in more than ten years. ⁠ ⁠ Set in ⁠the Swiss Alps, where domestic and agricultural structures shape the existing ⁠alpine fabric, it transforms an existing mixed-use structure of dwelling and ⁠agriculture into a new domestic form. Because the existing volume could not ⁠be altered, the project develops through reuse, reinterpretation, and precise ⁠intervention rather than formal reinvention. Civilities — Threshold⁠ ⁠ The water police station Mythenquai approaches Civilities through civic service as architecture. The building gives form to a complex public service, becoming the system through which this civic service can operate.⁠ ⁠ Set at the boundary between land and water, it works as a differentiated interface between public presence and restricted service. Following yesterday’s inauguration, the new FHNW School of Business and Computer Science at Dreispitz is preparing to open for the fall semester 2026.⁠ ⁠ On Basel’s Dreispitz — where logistics, production, education, culture, and housing now coexist within the same urban field — the project proposes the university not as a polished institutional object, but as an open infrastructural framework: a workshop of ideas.⁠ ⁠ The building works with the rawness of its context. Its robust structure, adaptable systems, and open learning fields keep the spaces available for what teaching, research, and exchange may become.⁠ ⁠ Inside, knowledge circulates through open fields and sculptural staircases. Civilities — Landscape⁠ ⁠ Marina Tiefenbrunnen frames Civilities at the scale of the landscape. The project transforms the marina from a primarily infrastructural condition into a civic landscape where lake, shore, public access, leisure, water sports, and urban life are organised together.⁠ ⁠ Its civic role lies in bringing these different uses into relation. House B responds to the generic suburban condition by refusing the logic of the isolated single-family house.⁠ ⁠ The boundary becomes architecture. Defined by enclosure before it is read as an object, the house establishes a clear perimeter: hard and territorial on the outside, soft and private within. Landscape is held inside the architectural perimeter and becomes part of everyday life. Entry courtyard and garden courtyard transform outdoor space into a protected domestic condition.⁠ ⁠ Designed for a father and daughter, the spaces are stacked into one vertical spatial field. The house can be read as two domestic territories with a shared middle: a lower patio house, an upper retreat, and the common spaces for meeting in between.
