{ EAGER TOURIST } There’s no denying that Japan is one k the most photogenic places on Earth. Digging through the archive, we rediscovered a stunning photo essay by Diego Avilés Goldman @vvvacio back in January 2020:“In Tokyo I thought about commas more than ever. The periods were not enough, because nothing seemed to stop; the light was constant and the people were liquid like a fluid always looking for a new container to transform into. Millions of people yet we all seemed to find ourselves in the most crowded social nodes constantly without any problem, even without meaning to. Most of my days in Tokyo I walked dreamingly through the narrow streets of Hiyoshi, about 35 minutes from Shibuya by train. The metallic electrical structures are continuous, extensive, they would seem to be infinite but I know nothing is forever. Everything seems to follow its own route, in any direction, in all directions.I met many people from different countries and cultures. I think I am very good at adapting to new places. I am moved by the void. Space in Tokyo is minimal, however that feeling of loneliness only makes everything feel immense, but extremely fugacious. Everything seems false, unreal, surreal. From the shops, the shop windows, to the people, the fashions. It is like being awake in a dream while running on a treadmill in some department store. Maybe we are like colors, we reflect all that we are not and can never be. Inside we are even more.In Tokyo you say goodbye to yourself and surrender completely to the unstoppable train of time, ephemeral as in few places. You only meet people once and you don’t see them again for months or maybe never again, each person may go through different lines on that chronic train.I’ve never been good at saying goodbye to others, I hope I never do. I prefer to keep everything floating in space until the next time we meet, like commas that join phrases or ideas separated by spaces.”#eagertourist #japan by @eagertourist

{ EAGER TOURIST } From the archive, India, 2019:Eager Tourist offers a glimpse into places far and wide that you may have never heard of—but soon find yourself longing to experience. We believe the greatest journeys are not always to the world’s most famous destinations, but to the places that leave a quiet imprint long after you’ve returned home, compelling you to return in search of something you cannot quite explain. The photographs in this story are by photographer David Lombroso @davidlombroso captured during two deeply personal chapters in India: first while attending a friend’s wedding in Mumbai, and then during a solo journey that evolved into a months-long exploration of the country’s spiritual, cultural, and geographic richness. What began as a celebration became something far more profound—a journey by train, bus, and foot from Mumbai to Goa, across the Western Ghats, through hill stations and historic cities, and ultimately to the sacred banks of the Ganges.Nowhere embodies that experience more completely than Varanasi. At dawn, after an unforgettable train journey, the ancient city comes alive along the river as pilgrims, priests, families, and travelers converge in a timeless rhythm of ritual and everyday life. It is a place where chaos and serenity coexist, where curiosity is a way of life, and where thousands of years of tradition continue uninterrupted. For David, Varanasi became the place that distilled the essence of India—a city that reveals itself slowly, rewards patience, and leaves an imprint impossible to shake.#eagertourist #india by @eagertourist

{ EAGER TOURIST } Napoli, August 2019.The city felt like a spell.A day drifting with Benedetta—from the elegance of Chiaia to the raw pulse of the Quartieri Spagnoli, through the historic layers of Centro Storico, a pause at Caffè Gambrinus, and down to the port—light, stone, movement. Layers folding into each other.Old and new blur. Texture, rhythm, fragments of life passing through the frame.photos by @rossbelfer #eagertourist #napoli #italy by @eagertourist

{ EAGER TOURIST } Hotel Archive — In today’s modern hospitality landscape, there are hotels, and there are airbnbs. And then there are those special places that fall in between categories, where authenticity is a beckon of hope and intention is executed with accuracy. At Villa Rosmarino @villarosmarinocamogli , nestled along a gorgeous winding street in Camogli in Italy’s seaside Ligurian region, referred to as the Italian Riveira, don’t expect air conditioning, TVs and formalities of a your standard bolthole. But do expect an incredible art collection fashioning the walls of every crevasses in the villa; Italian designer everything, from the ashtrays to the sun-chairs and bed frames, furniture and light fixtures; charming breakfast and late afternoon aperitivo, and an outdoor pool temperature-d perfectly for a cool dip after a hot day at the beach. All in all, this place offers an intangible calm and understated sophistication that only owners Fulvio and Mario could dream into existence — a perfect respite from the bustle of contemporary life.#eagertourist #liguria #italy #travel #hotels by @eagertourist

{ EAGER TOURIST } Upstate New York — April 2026: Mohonk Mountain House Resort & Spa @mohonkmountainhouse This isn’t a trendy design story. There’s nothing especially remarkable about the dining, and parts of the hotel can feel a little worn and outdated. But there’s something so deeply and unmistakably American about Mohonk that it deserves a place on Eager Tourist.Founded in 1869 by Quaker twins Albert and Alfred Smiley, the hotel evolved over decades into its remarkable Victorian castle-like form, perched above a glacial lake in the Shawangunk Mountains. Its turrets, porches, stone towers, and sprawling verandas weren’t the work of a single architect, but the result of generations of additions that together tell a uniquely American story. For more than 150 years, presidents, naturalists, artists, thinkers, and families have come here for the same reasons: the landscape, the fresh air, and the belief that time spent in nature is time well spent. As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Mohonk feels less like a hotel and more like a living monument to the best of Americana.
