The name sounds small. The idea behind it isn’t. 👀 If you’ve wondered how local businesses can help families stay housed, this one comes with a clear number. 👇 Family Promise of Hawaii @familypromiseofhawaii, a nonprofit founded in 2005, just moved most of its rental and housing assistance programs under a new name: Housing Scholarships. Here’s how it works: 1. A family at risk of or experiencing homelessness is selected. 2. They get one-on-one coaching on jobs, money and life skills. 3. They get a housing subsidy to stabilize or secure housing. 4. They graduate with permanent housing and the ability to stay stable. Scholarships run from 3 months to 1 year, depending on need, and about 150 new families reach out every month. 🏠 The price tag: about $10,000 for a short-term scholarship for one family, covering the subsidy, case management and operating costs. 💰 Companies can give $10,000 to fund one family, or more to fund more. Anything under $10,000 goes into a shared fund. HawaiiUSA @hawaiiusafcu and Aloha United Way’s Women United @auwwomenunited each gave $10,000 to kick it off. Why the new name? The nonprofit says “rental assistance” can carry shame or stigma, and it wants families to feel empowered and keep their dignity. It also wants funding to match each family’s needs, not the other way around. If your company is looking for a clear way to give, one $10,000 gift supports one family. 💡 Does calling it a “Housing Scholarship” change how you feel about rental help? 👇 👉 Follow @Coconut.Wireless.Hawaii for more Hawaii news and development updates like these! Everyone pictures Waikiki as wall-to-wall crowds. This unit is proof that’s not the whole story. 🌴 Just listed — this 2-bedroom, 2-bath is $838,000 in one of Waikiki’s most recognizable landmark buildings, beautifully maintained, move-in ready, and positioned on the quieter side of the neighborhood, away from the busiest stretch. You still get ocean views and everything Waikiki offers, just without fighting foot traffic to get home. The amenities here do a lot of the talking. Head up to the 15th floor recreation deck and you’ve got both an adult pool and a keiki pool, plus jacuzzis for winding down. Add in 24-hour security, a Concierge Desk Monday through Friday, a fitness center, and even an on-site conference room — this is the kind of building that makes daily life easier, not just prettier. One important detail if you’re weighing this as an investment: the building has a legal 30-day minimum rental period. That rules out short-term/vacation rental use, but it’s exactly why buildings like this tend to stay quieter and more stable — you’re surrounded by owners and long-term tenants, not a rotating door of weekly guests. At $838,000 for this much space, this location, and this amenity package, it’s genuinely one of the stronger values in Waikiki right now. Would you rather be in the middle of the action, or on the quiet side like this one? 👇 📲 DM me or reach out to schedule a private showing at 1888 Kalakaua Ave, Unit 2405.
