Appreciation post for my memories ☁️🐇 Me and my wizard dad fixed my kiln!! It had been erroring for a few weeks, right before my markets commenced meaning I had to cancel the first one of the winter season. We ended up changing the thermocouple, elements ( hello 16amp world 🤏🏼 ) and wiring her into the grid, eeek. I feel like I know her inside out now and just appreciative of the experience 1. To learn more about myself 2. To connect with my precious equipment and 3. Most importantly, to spend 3 whole days with my dad 😌 She’s on a test glaze fire now, so keeping all our fingers crossed, if all goes well, I’ll be heading to @northamptonshoe for an exhibition 5th November - 10th January 🐰 What a relief 😮‍💨 by @earthmould

Four lilac, peachy crystalline cups 🐰 As promised here is the recipe, firing schedule & method *** Crystalline Glaze Recipe : For 200g of glaze (which roughly would allow me to glaze 4-5 standard mugs for example 3 times on the outside ) Water - 100g Ferro Frit - 45.03g Zinc Oxide - 21.37g Quartz - 8.52g Wood ash - 3.82g Titanium Dioxide - 1.14g - I would like to: •minimise ingredients as much as possible • Make better sustainable swaps e.g quartz for recycled wood ash ( as this is a flux and has silica in it, it may work okay, I will test it this time round ) • make glaze less runny, so no need for glaze catchers (never tried these but don’t want too, as their single use) - smaller segments Firing Schedule : 9 segments Ramp 1 - 500 C1- 500 Hold - 0 Ramp 2- 500 C1-1000 Hold - 0 Ramp 3 - 250 C1 - 1250 Hold - 0 Ramp 4 - 50 C1 - 1250 Hold - 0 Ramp 5 - 250 C1 - 1000 Hold - 60mins Ramp 6- 250 C1 - 750 Hold - 15 mins Ramp 7- 50 C1- 800 Hold - 10mins Ramp 8- 400 C1 - 400 Hold - 10 mins Ramp 9 - 9999 C1 - 0 Hold - 0 Method : Measure out your water & in a separate bowl measure out each individual ingredient, add to water one by one and tick it off of your list ✅ stir well…very very well, with either a whisk, electric mixer or battery powered whisk, sieve glaze mixture to remove any larger chunks, (I recommend a 120# seive for this) & give the mixture one final good stir, your glaze is ready to go! Apply 2-3 coats of glaze to bisque fired piece, letting each layer dry in between & set aside to dry before the glaze firing And that’s all 🧚🏽 I hope you have wonderful success growing crystals on your pottery & I hope you love these ones! All my love, Claudia x ~ #crystallinepottery #howto #potterylesson #glazeinstructions by @earthmould
Crystalline glazes 101 *** Here’s a little update, there’s so much to say on this subject, I could go on & on, the footage for this video was over 45 minutes so making it succinct was very tricky but we got there in the end 🐇 A question arose within me the other evening - am I truly doing all I can to be a caretaker of the planet, am I being responsible for my actions here, am I using these beautiful natural materials mindfully and minimally as to not take too much? 🐇 ~ Crystalline Glaze Recipe : For 200g of glaze (which roughly would allow me to glaze 4-5 standard mugs for example 3 times on the outside ) Water - 100g Ferro Frit - 45.03g Zinc Oxide - 21.37g Quartz - 8.52g Wood ash - 3.82g Titanium Dioxide - 1.14g - I would like to: •minimise ingredients as much as possible • Make better sustainable swaps e.g quartz for recycled wood ash ( as this is a flux and has silica in it, it may work okay, I will test it this time round ) • make glaze less runny, so no need for glaze catchers (never tried these but don’t want too, as their single use) - smaller segments Firing Schedule : 9 segments Ramp 1 - 500c C1- 500 Hold - 0 Ramp 2- 500 C1-1000 Hold - 0? - try 5 Ramp 3 - 250 C1 - 1250 Hold - 0? Try 10mins Ramp 4 - 50 C1 - 1200 Hold - 0? Try 5? Ramp 5 - 200 C1 - 1000 Hold - 60mins ? Try 30 mins Ramp 6- 250 C1 - 750 Hold - 15 mins?try 10mins Ramp 7- 50 C1- 800 Hold - 10mins? Ramp 8- 400 C1 - 400 Hold - 10 mins? Ramp 9 - 9999 C1 - 0 Hold - 0 - next time I will : • reduce hold times ! Anything with a question mark next to it feels like it could be adjusted. I’m thinking smaller minimal climbs not rushing just gently heating, and then cooling and holding subtly, halfing the longest hold time to see how that has an effect. Aiming to get a better balance here ⚖️ ~ #ceramics #howto #glaze #crystalline #creativity by @earthmould
* ~ Crystalline glazes 101 •* Beginning this new series with an introduction of my desire to talk more about glaze chemistry and the magic that is possible from precious natural ingredients but also, how we can do it SUSTAINABLY 🌎 I guess we’ll continue figuring this out, learning together, sharing information, creating in community, with the planet in mind 🐇 ~ #crystallineglazerecipe #101 #lesson #teachme #pottery by @earthmould
My name is Claudia and I have a small pottery studio in my home in the uk, I work with stoneware clay on a potters wheel & through various hand building methods like coiling, sculpture. I glaze all of my work in a handmade recipe, developed over the last year or so to what it is now. I’d say I still get a 10% chance of pieces getting a glaze issue like pinholing, cracks or running in every kiln load and I’d like to lower that %. So I’ve been drying pieces extra slow, reaaally taking my time with things and then I’ll soon be introducing an idea to go through things step by step with the glaze chemistry & firing schedules etc, with complete transparency and learning together. It’s sometimes kept a bit taboo in the glazing industry and to me, this only leads to unsustainable practices that aren’t ethical to land or creature. This is my only whim with pottery, it uses natural materials, which are wonderful for many reasons but unsustainable in themselves. Think, if I dug a mine of kaolin for ever and ever its going to run out, it can’t regrow itself, so in my eyes that’s unsustainable and the more we waste glaze materials the more we eat away at this precious resource. So, I’m trying to take more responsibility & I think one way to do this is to be completely transparent with anyone else who engages with my art and for all ecological values & morals🌼🌈 And above are some videos of the type of art I looooove to make 🦋🐬🐰 #ceramics #pottery #clay #collections #handmade by @earthmould
Some of the last few pieces left in my online shop 🐇💫 (Link in bio) A mixture of items available, including some sculptural work and some functional items. I also have a seconds ceramics section on there for items which are still 100% functional but have slight flaws to them & these pieces are discounted. All stoneware and layered in hand-made crystalline glaze, of which you can alwayssss see better in person (partially the reason I enjoy selling in person), they have so much variation and tiny details that to capture on a camera is really tricky. I hope there’s something you enjoy as a gift to yourself or a loved one - the next shop update will likely be another month or two away, I have lots to prepare for the the EOY and so have begun the process today, I look forward to the next 6 months of creating, I wonder what will arrive 🦋 ~ #ceramics #shoponline #pottery #clay #inventory by @earthmould
Let my world be full of creatures 🪲🦋🕷️ Now sold, commissions open for creature creation 💌 ~ Stoneware hand-built flower of life moth sculpture, layered in a hand-made crystalline glaze.
