“During the week of October 26th, California teachers and taxpayers engaged in a statewide week of action, demanding that the California Teacher Retirement System divest from Palantir and Israel Bonds. From San Diego to Humboldt County, supporters of the CalSTRS Divest campaign demonstrated and engaged with fellow teachers and community memberships about the human rights abuses facilitated by our pension fund. This week of action came after a new U.N. Commission of Inquiry report that finds Israel is continuing to commit genocidal acts against Palestinians in Gaza, and is committing crimes against humanity by ethnically cleansing Palestinians in the West Bank. #freepalestine🇵🇸 #calstrs #gaza #bds #teachers by @eastbaydsa
What do guaranteed housing, a Green New Deal, a 32-hour work week, and abolishing the Senate have in common? Come join our political education committee to find out as we discuss DSA’s new National Program, Workers Deserve More. Wednesday, Nov 11, 6:30 PM, EBDSA office. Copies of the program and dinner will be provided. by @eastbaydsa
Have you heard about the monster in Oakland? This Halloween as the streets of Oakland are filled with people dressed as monsters and villains, let us not forgot how the Oakland Airport is being used for the real horror. FedEx has been using our airport for the last 3 years to ship military cargo to Israel weekly as they make sure the horrors of genocide can continue. After tonight, costumes will come off, but the monster at the Oakland Airport will remain in purple and orange until an Oakland People’s Arms Embargo is enacted. Join us to get killer cargo out of OAK! armsembargonow.com by @eastbaydsa
What moves people from conformity (to oppressive systems) to critique? From critique to action? Once lit, what keeps the fire burning? How do we handle the hazards along the way? Come and join East Bay DSA's Political Education committee and other comrades to discuss principles, strategies, and experiences relevant to our ongoing journeys as organizers. Dinner will be provided! To RSVP, please visit https://ebdsa.us/psych-org. Hope to see you there 🌹 by @eastbaydsa
🗣️Hey East Bay: our cities are directly funding the genocide in Palestine, but here's how we can fight back against it! 🗓️ In October of last year we fought and won divestment policy in Alameda County, but the work continues. by @eastbaydsa
Why are billionaires so desperate to sway Oakland’s school board elections? 💸 Follow the money. Empower Oakland’s own disclaimer lists its top funders as Gagan Biyani, Chris Larsen, and Ryan Graciano. Teachers say that money pushes a version of “fiscal accountability” that has meant school closures and privatization in other cities, and now the threat of AI replacing real investment in our classrooms. And the connections go deeper. On Oct. 2, Biyani and Empower Oakland co-founder Loren Taylor co-hosted a closed-door meeting in Oakland with Palantir executive Aki Jain to discuss “business x politics,” the AI boom, and data centers, right in the lead-up to this election. Biyani now leads an AI academy founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, the venture capital billionaires who backed Trump. It’s funded in part by Palantir and Anduril. Palantir is the surveillance company ICE uses to track down immigrants, and it was co-founded by Peter Thiel, the right-wing megadonor whose agenda journalist Gil Durán documents in his new book, The Nerd Reich. That’s not the future we want for Oakland’s kids. We believe schools should be run by teachers, students, and families making decisions together. That’s why Oakland teachers are endorsing Jennifer Brouhard and Valarie Bachelor for School Board. Both have a proven record of putting students first. 🍎 No billionaire board. Vote with Oakland teachers by Tuesday, Nov. 3! 🔗 VoteWithOaklandTeachers.com #VoteWithOaklandTeachers #Oakland #NoBillionaireBoard by @eastbaydsa
After our last action on Oct 1st at the Rules Committee meeting, we were told by a council member who had been previously attempting to block us, that we will be put on the agenda either at the November 5 or 12 Rules Committee meeting (the first meeting our legislation has to go through). Since then, we've been continuing to put pressure on all committee members to schedule us for Nov 5th and while we’ve gained some support, we still need a firm commitment for Nov 5th. We will know by next Monday if we are on the agenda or not, but either way we're planning to mobilize! If we're not on the agenda, we want to be conscious of people's time and we're planning to send a small contingent for 10 people (one of which could be you!). If we are on the agenda, we want to organize a larger group of 30 people (similar in size to our Oct 1st mobilization). If you're available, please reach out as we develop our plans! We'll put you on the list and keep you informed! And you can also support by sending an email to City Council (easy link in bio), to demand we’re on the agenda Nov 5th! by @eastbaydsa

We’ll also have some organizers from local campaigns there with ways we can help out as parents, caregivers, teens, and kids of all ages! Please RSVP so we know how much food & supplies to bring: bit.ly/redsprouts by @eastbaydsa
