Spent 3 weeks in Berlin to study New Media and came home with more than I bargained for. I decided to take some community college classes 2 years ago to challenge myself and ended up in Europe having possibly the most radicalizing experience of my life. Without realizing it, I’ve let my world get smaller. I’ve accepted flashes of connectivity and some blurry concept of community but it wasn’t until this time I could clearly see what an abysmally low-trust society we’ve established in the US. Things feel out of control here. I’ve only begun to process how I’ve contributed to it and what I can do as one person to correct it. Seeing closeness between strangers, having expectations exceeded and biases destroyed, day after day. Seeing how people, artists, equipped themselves and persevered through extraordinary horrors of man. It felt like shedding layered years of dead skin and bringing myself out into the light to feel the sun again. It feels like I’ve endured a quality of life here that is actually sinister, admitting defeat while somehow my country hoards the greatest consolidation of wealth in the world. From the simplest things like public transit and the price of groceries and inspired, free public spaces. To the most significant things like public trust and safety. A realistic, unifying vision of the future. When you visit the Reichstag, you can walk above the chamber where the German Legislative Parliament meets and look down at them through a giant glass dome, as a metaphor that the people should always be above their politicians. I had to ask, “Where do they do the UFC fight?”. I understand that we’re talking about Berlin here, the phantom limb of the world. Berlin who is rebuilt on the ashes of one failed utopia after another, still agonized by past evils that pulsate from every reconstructed facade, every street a monument to the senseless loss of life pursuing total control in the name of freedom. But to recognize that hubris back home, and feel the temperature rising. It’s affected me profoundly. To say i’m grateful for this experience doesn’t even begin to cover it. by @eastblessed

Where have I been and what am I doing now?
I’m playing music up in Seattle this summer with good friends (07.17), I’m writing a ton of different music, I’m about 2/3 of the way through a degree. Annie and I are going to Berlin for 3 weeks in august. Anyone who wants to hang over there lmk. I’m playing Symmetry Fest in October. I’ve thought a lot about Eastghost and challenged myself in a lot of different ways the last 2 years and reflected on the amazing things I’ve gotten to do with this music project and there’s so much more I want to do. There’s a sequel/EP on the way, an album in progress, some other projects too. I can’t wait to share it all. If you’re still with me, I’m still with you. Hate to be this guy but, damn… Big things coming soon. by @eastblessed
