This quiet waterfront in Southampton, New York is one of the most significant places in American history. And almost nobody knows it exists. 🌊⭐On June 12, 1640, the first English settlers landed here on land that the Shinnecock Nation had called home for thousands of years. One woman stepped ashore and said, “For conscience’ sake, we’re on dry land,” and that is how this place got its name.Conscience Point. The founding site of New York State.386 years later, you can walk the same waterfront. Follow the crushed-shell trail to the 20-ton boulder that marks the landing. Watch the birds fly over the harbor. 250 years ago, soldiers from Riverhead fought in the Battle of Long Island. The cemeteries of this region hold the remains of 111 Revolutionary War patriots. The founding site of New York State sits on a quiet waterfront in North Sea which most people drive right past every summer without knowing it exists.The East End has always been at the center of American history. This year, with the nation marking 250 years of independence, we are telling that story one site at a time.We started in Southampton. Pindar Vineyards📍Peconic, NY@pindarvineyards Pindar Vineyards has been making wine on Long Island for the last 45 years, and is loved by many! They have their main vineyard and tasting room in Peconic, and then a smaller tasting room in Port Jefferson (which we also love!). Their Peconic location offers a large amount of indoor and outdoor seating, and you can even bring your own chairs and blankets if you’d like to! Pindar is also a vineyard that you can bring your own food to, which we always love doing. They have live music on weekends and events, so make sure to see what’s coming next! by @eastendgetaway
