We bring the care. We bring the green. 💚🩺

Our Dean’s Office door got a Homecoming makeover! The CHHS Care Kit celebrates health, support, movement, nourishment, community and leadership, reflecting the many ways our college makes a difference.

Repurposed folders became pockets, and this year’s mystery item, pipe cleaners, became helping hands, a stethoscope, utensils and more!

Many professions. One purpose. A little EMU spirit in every pocket. 🦅 The image shows a green door featuring "The CHHS Care Kit" display with sections labeled Health, Support, Movement, Nourishment, Community, and Leadership. The bottom banner reads, "We Bring the Care. We Bring the Green. College of Health and Human Services." by @easternchhs

She knew she wanted to help people. TR helped her find her direction. 💚

Meet Graciela Lovett, our next Therapeutic Recreation Week student spotlight!

Graciela came to EMU considering physical therapy or athletic training before a university counselor introduced her to TR.

Fieldwork at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry helped her discover a passion for mental health. Shadowing a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist showed her how meaningful activities can support patient care.

Now, she plans to pursue certification and work with youth, helping young people build confidence, develop coping skills, and feel heard and supported.

Her advice to future TR students: keep an open mind. You might discover a passion you hadn’t considered. ✨ This image is a promotional poster titled "Student Spotlight" for EMU, focusing on "Finding a Path in Therapeutic Recreation." It features a quote from Graciela Lovett about combining interests in helping people and being active. Graciela's photo is shown, along with a group photo of individuals outdoors. Painting it GREEN for our DEAN! 💚

“Just a quick question, Dean Jenny…”

Everyone kept stopping by her meeting with questions, but nobody was leaving!

Before long, her office was packed with CHHS students, faculty, and staff ready to Paint it Green for our Dean with CHHS cheers and green sticky notes full of appreciation.

Swipe to see the office “party”!

Looks like the Homecoming spirit is sticking around! 😉🦅 A person sits at a round wooden table with several colorful sticky notes placed on it. A vase with flowers is centered on the table. Behind them is a window with plants on the sill and a wall decorated with a hanging tapestry. The room appears to be an office or casual workspace. taken in Marshall Building, EMU by @easternchhs

That moment when your major starts feeling like your future. 💚

For Madison Wharfield, it happened during fieldwork with older adults.

She first chose Therapeutic Recreation because she could help people while having fun. Working with older adults gave that interest a direction: a future in senior living, supporting health and quality of life through recreation.

Along the way, EMU’s fieldwork experiences and guest speakers have helped her explore the field. She gives a special shoutout to Dr. Heather Silander for her encouragement and focus on preparing students for their careers.

After graduation, Madison plans to pursue certification and build a career where relationships with clients matter.

Her advice: keep exploring. TR can take you into clinical, community, or residential settings.

Show Madison some love for Therapeutic Recreation Week! 👏 by @easternchhs
