DIY beeswax fire starters, the prettiest fall craft you’ll ever toss in the fireplace 🍊🔥

These make the perfect homemade gift for anyone with a fireplace, fire pit, or wood stove, and they smell like autumn before you even light them.

What you’ll need:
• Beeswax pellets
• Paper cupcake liners + a muffin tin
• Wicks (optional, I use them for easy lighting)
• Natural add-ins like dried citrus, herbs, flowers, whole spices, and little nature finds

I used dried oranges, rosemary, cinnamon sticks, star anise, rose buds, calendula, and acorn caps, but use whatever you have on hand.

How to make them:
1. Set cupcake liners in a muffin tin and fill with beeswax pellets.
2. Bake at 200°F until fully melted, about 15 to 30 minutes.
Top off with more pellets if needed.
3. While the wax is still warm, press in your botanicals and add a wick for easy lighting.
4. Let them harden completely, then trim the extra paper for a clean look.

To use: light the wick and tuck it under your kindling.

Save this for your fall crafts list and tag someone who needs a cozy homemade gift idea 🧡

I always have so many people tell me this method of potting is a horrible idea, and I’m so glad I tune them out. 🌿

If you know your plants need well enough, you can use almost anything as a planter! I love planting in clear vessels so I can see my root system. My go-to layering is LECA, sphagnum moss, and living soil. The ultimate plant parfait.

This is a Hoya Wayang I got from @live.glow.grow a long while back! I water about twice a month. The blooms are pretty but smell like rubber.😵‍💫

Grow bottle gourds & dry them out. So worth it! All you need is a drill, wire, and some paint. Wrens and finches will be moving in to your houses before you know it 🐦‍⬛

• Bottle cap = perfect 1¼” hole guide

• Drill drainage holes in the bottom and ventilation
holes near the top

•Seal with waterproof sealant or linseed oil, 2
coats, 24 hours apart

• Hang 12 to 15 feet up facing away from the wind

⚠️ Make sure you always wear a mask when sanding dried gourds or shaking out the seeds. The dust is toxic if inhaled

If you’ve never done one, it’s just a pot of water with fruit and spices left on the lowest simmer all day. People have been doing some version of this forever. Way before candles and plug-ins, folks pushed cloves into oranges and hung them up to keep rooms smelling sweet, and old farmhouses would set a pot of spices on the back of the wood stove in the cold months so the steam carried the scent through the whole house. Same idea, just a stove instead of a wood stove.

Here’s what went in mine:
one orange, sliced
one apple, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
a spoonful of whole cloves
3 sprigs of rosemary from the garden
a splash of vanilla

Bring it to a boil, then turn it all the way down and leave the lid off. Top off the water every so often and it’ll go all day. Don’t drink it, obviously.

I kept it simple this time so the water stayed clear and pretty, but I’m already planning a wild version with sassafras and spicebush from the woods. That’s the one that’ll really smell like here.

Glowing Jack-o’-Lantern Jars 🎃

Let’s be honest, nobody is spending $100 on a styrofoam, poorly painted pumpkin that Michaels and Home Goods have the audacity to sell this year.

Here’s how I made it: I mixed Mod Podge with red and yellow paint until it turned a see through orange (didn’t have orange paint on hand), that translucency is what gives it the glow once lit. I painted that onto a clean dry jar, then baked it at 175 to speed up drying (low and slow, and never leave it unattended). Once it was dry I painted on the jack o’-lantern face, then dropped in tea light and screwed the lid on tight.

A few tips: always use a battery operated candle, never a real flame with the lid on. Thin coats of the Mod Podge mixture work better than one thick layer, you’ll get a more even glow.
Make sure your jar is oven safe before baking, and let the paint fully cure before handling it so the design doesn’t smudge. Pickle jars are great for this because of the wide mouth, but any clear glass jar with a lid works too.

If you don’t know fire cider, it’s an old folk remedy: raw fruits, roots, and spices packed into a jar and covered completely in apple cider vinegar, then left to steep for weeks so all that goodness pulls into the liquid. People have used it for generations to support the immune system heading into cold and flu season, and honestly a little shot of this stuff wakes you up better than coffee some mornings.

This round I layered it with tangerines, lemons, turmeric, ginger, jalapeño, red cabbage, red onion, garlic, radish, and rosemary. Topped it all the way with raw apple cider vinegar so nothing is exposed to air.

Now it just sits. Somewhere cool and dark for 2 to 4 weeks, giving it a shake every day or two so everything keeps mingling. Once it’s steeped, I’ll strain it out and stir in raw honey to mellow the heat. 🧡 by @easygrowing_

Little rest stops for busy wings 🐝✨

Made this pollinator hydration station from bamboo, beach glass, glass beads, and seashells (secured with E6000 glue)

Bees and butterflies need shallow water sources just as much as flowers, but ponds and bird baths are often too deep and risk drowning them. The glass beads and shells give them a safe landing spot to drink from without slipping in.

A whimsical addition to any garden imo. 🧚🏻‍♀️ by @easygrowing_

Ghost taper candles 🕯️

I warmed the water with my kettle to about 130°F, dipped the tapers until the wax turned soft and pliable (about 7 minutes), then twisted and swirled them by hand before painting on the faces.

If your water is too cool, they will likely break when twisting. If too warm, they will melt. 130°F was the perfect temp for mine!

Turmeric sun prints, an old kitchen alchemy trick for these long golden afternoons 🌞

Mix one part turmeric to four parts isopropyl alcohol and paint it onto thick watercraft paper. Let it dry thirty minutes. Go gather pretty foliage from the yard, lay it on the paper, and let the sun do its work for another thirty minutes. Mix two tablespoons baking soda with a cup of water, dip the paper in, then let it dry and develop.

The alkaline wash is what pulls the color to life. Curcumin loves a good pH shift.

A little sun magic for the porch table, and a good excuse to go looking for pretty leaves 🍂

Using my herbs and flowers to make natural incense 🕯️🧚🏻‍♀️

No mystery ingredients. Just lavender, rose petals, rosemary, chamomile, calendula, and a pinch of clove.

Ground it fine, mixed it with makko powder (the traditional binder) and water right in my mortar, then hand coated it onto bamboo skewers.

Now it’s just time. They rest and dry for about a week before they’re ready to burn.

On another note: the other day I heard healing is just returning to the girl you were at 16 and loving her the way she deserved to be loved back then. I understand that deeply in this era of my life. Herbal medicines and wild crafting have always interested me, I just lost sight of who my soul knows I am for a little more than a decade. I am slowly but surely being reminded.

I hope you guys create a reason to smile today 💕
