maya goodbye dinner 😢💔 miss her sm alr. been wanting to try this korean handroll place bc i keep getting tiktoks abt it. its rly good but like a little overpriced imo. i wouldnt go OVER kazunori or other sushi places. their specialty rolls are worth a try if your curious and the clam chowder was AWESOME, if i ever go back im getting that fs. other than that, the handrolls were rly yummy, but idk this place isnt the cheapest n we gas prices not getting any lower ya feel me? i would say must orders/what i would return for are:
- miso clam chowder
- chili yellowtail

i wish i tried the seared salmon one but maya and rachel said it was bomb. the banh mi was fun! i was so curious so it was worth a try, but not mindblowing. id try something else next time. basic rolls like the blue crab or spicy tuna, id can get elsewhere in la for cheaper. fun experience & fun for a group dinner fs! just a lil expensive considering the amount of handroll spots around la :)

FLAVORS FROM AFAR

yeeee this place's mission & backstory is so cool. rotating menu featuring refugee chefs & cuisines that are outside of the mainstream represtation, even in LAs diverse food scene. bib gourmand, too! ethiopian & palestinian owned! went for lunch! ordered:

✨ ethiopian berebere fries - perfectly crunchy, the seasoning was flavorful, and the mayo paired perfectly! fun app, next time i go im gonna try something diff, maybe more out of my comfort zone, but these are solid fries.
✨ somali chicken rice bowl - the chicken is SO TENDER. fell off the bone immediately & melt in ur mouth seriously. the green sauce paired perfectly & rice was flavorful. def recommend!!
✨ kenyan coconut tilapia - so yum. my favorite thing i tried. im a big white fish fan so... but i thought it was perfectly cooked and the sauce w the veggies balanced everythinf out so well.

loved this place!! def recommend!! atmosphere was friendly and spacious. i know they do coworking and diff events here too. would def come again!!

CHARLIE'S FISH & CHIPS

as a certified seafood and catfish lover, i had to try this place. i drove past it when i was coming home from school and i was like 🤨 whats going on here & have been wanting to try it ever since bc online ppl rave abt it. i got the 5 fish 5 shrimp 5 oyster combo for $21 which is a great bang for ur buck if u ask me! i chose catfish for my fish option but they got diff choices. they also have a rly good $15 lunch deal fyi. anyways, the breading was crispy and seasoned well. the shrimps were probably my fav, the catfish i think was a little underwhelming. this was the first time i had fried oyster and idk how i feel abt it. i think i like oysters better raw or char grilled. the tartar sauce was supa yummy and it came w a sode salad and bread too. overall super awesome small business w a lot of locals and a rly good bang for ur buck imo!! id rate it a 7.7/10 by @eatwithkatelyn

jus poke

tbh. i had higher hopes for this bc everyone says its the best poke in LA. it was good but i think i like more onion in my poke. perhaps it was the choices i made, i got the shoyu & california roll (normally i an anti california roll but i wanted avocado). the shoyu was good and the rice was seasoned well. i liked the spicy edamame. it was good and id come back but i was expecting to be mind blown and wasnt completely.... need to try more. i love poke sm & the best one ive had remains to be the foodland poke in hawaii (tryna find a good mainland sub bc i dont wanna visit hawaii again bc overtourism 💔 but the poke was earth shattering fr) 8.5/10 taken in Jus' Poke by @eatwithkatelyn

TRACEY'S BELIZEAN RESTAURANT

📍south central, los angeles

this place has been on my list FOREVER!! a friend of mine that i met at a grocery distro recommended me this restaurant & holy smokes. ive never had Belizean food before, but wow. this did not disappoint. i went w my friends saint & liam who are visiting from ny. we got the oxtail plate w rice & beans and potato salad. oxtail was fall off the bone and flavorful/saucy. rice & beans were seasoned so freaking well (i love rice and beans so much) potato salad was so good. also it came w plantains that were cooked to perfection, not too soggy, but not too firm/undercooked. I LOVE PLANTAINS! it was a lot of food for $22! sorry i didnt get a better pic 😭 i also got this pineapple ginger soda that was sooo yummy!! refreshing but the ginger added a fun/bright depth. will def be returning. ngl one of my favorite restaurants ive tried this year & i need to try more!! 10/10 taken in South Central LA by @eatwithkatelyn

FINALLY! after a year of wanting to try this place, inhave arrived. firstly.... their staff all like 10/10 on face card like its lowk ridiculous.... and the waiters n hostesses were so nice it was just crazy bc they all looked like models. ANYWAYS, to the important stuff: skip the kinilaw, its not worth for the size like its kinda crazy. the mushroom sisg tho.... i love love love mushrooms so i really enjoyed that dish in particular. my FAVORITE dish was the ginataang kalabasa. the textures, the flavors.... it was very yummy & ive never had a dish like it anywhere else in LA. order it if u go. the brisket kaldereta was yummy, but i think id order something different next time. the inihaw na panga (hamachi collar) was yummy too! pomegranate was a nice contrast to the fish. calamansi juice was refreshing. we also got complimentary shrimp chips (which i could eat a whole bag of) and ice cream bc brytah staged for them before so yay! they staff was soo soo nice and fun. ambience was vibey in a zillenial la way. shoutout my filipino friends @mayaastaana and @brytah for taking me, they probably have better more well informed opinions than me (also bc bryan literally is a cook and food columnist wtf 😭) (maya's filipinality gives her supreme judgement) but id give lasita an 8/10 !!

monorom cambodian restaurant

ayeee where my khmers attttt!! lbc stand uppppp. i know this place is authentic because two of my friends from api rise (who are cambodian) said this place is og. i went w after tp banquet last year AND with @theboyblink a few weeks ago. the student noodle and salt & pepper shrimp are my faves #mustorder. jay said the food was bomb too. so if u dont believe me, ask him. the workers are also very kind. both instances we stayed and talked for a few hours 😭 8.9/10

i rly wanna eat more cambodian food next year - have a few places in mind. if u wanna explore w me let ya girl know. by @eatwithkatelyn

this place was solid. oaxacan owned & style drinks & foods. burrito was huge. there was a lot of seating. i mainly read here so i didn't frfr lock in. the fresas con crema drink was BOMB tho and i will back for that specifically. 8/10 by @eatwithkatelyn

this place was so yummy. our waitress was the best ever. the drinks were so good. i got the lemon mint & andrew got a mango matcha. the dips were so good, esp the yogurt one. im ngl i like my grape leaves a little stronger in flavor but these were solid. the chicken was sooo tender, rice was well seasoned, the meats were tender and flavorful. i wanna go back to try more of the drinks specifically honestly. will def return. 8.5/10 taken in University of Denver by @eatwithkatelyn

this is the second time ive been to both the bbh restaurant & the dessert place. solid bbh! i think the first time i had it, it was more seasoned (which is my preference). the che place is SO GOOD! i love sweet tofu anything so def recommend!! just took them to go so i could catch up on some reading for school. anyways. grad school is taking up all of my time & ive been missing viet food real bad. rachel just left to korea too so now im #BORED! but enjoy this mukbang! perhaps ill make more perhaps not 🤨 by @eatwithkatelyn
