If you smelled something strange at @lost.music.festival, you may find comfort in these words.

PHANTOSMIA is an olfactory intervention conceived for LOST 2026.

Named after the neurological phenomenon of perceiving phantom smells, the work explored scent as a medium of perceptual displacement and collective memory.

The intervention introduced a sharp green composition into the landscape. Sour, damp and unsettling: the ghost of Dendrophylax lindenii, an odourless flower, lingering through the maze.

Creating phantosmia meant constructing a presence without a visible origin: a sensory interference suspended between matter and imagination, blurring the boundaries between environment and perception.

An unfamiliar scent manifested, leaving visitors questioning its source: was it part of their surroundings, or something they had imagined?

Handing out samples to those who detected it extended the experience beyond the site, allowing the phantom scent to become part of a shared memory long after the festival had vanished.
